Dear Sir or Madam:
My name is ........ and I would like to express my interest in studying at the University of Alicante as an Erasmus+ student. I am currently studying Architecture, Urban Planning and Design in Georgian Technical University. I have known about this program since school and thenceforth, it stuck in my mind and studying abroad became one my goals. This programme wouldn’t only help me with my current studies, but also enhance my future career perspectives and I will learn to view the world through different lenses. I reckon that an architect cannot focus on exclusively on their country and broadening the horizons is indispensable. As John A. Shedd said “a ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.” And in my humble opinion I’m ready for this big step in my life, as I am always prepared to face challenges and I am resilient person whose is not afraid of changes.
My passion for architecture began from early ages of childhood and it developed from building from LEGOs to real modelling. Art lessons which I took since 2008 and other extracurricular activities helped me to develop social skills, increase self-confidence and self-motivation. Above all, I acknowledged how vital it is to help indigent people and always volunteered by selling my artworks. I have won some competitions for the best paintings and have received certificates for successful participations in other subjects too like math and physics. Also studying English for 8 years really paid off and I had a chance to interact with delegates from other countries. I had to translate from English on conferences and it was as much fun as challenging. I found all of this so amusing and refreshing that I can only imagine what it’s like to live in a foreign country and to get to know other cultures and people.
Studying architecture in Spain is an opportunity I would love to dedicate myself too wholeheartedly. Reading about what it’s like to live in Alicante, made me so much more ambitious. Its past evident in its architecture, old city, and tradition blends with the city’s devotion to modernization. All of this sounds like a dream for architecture student. I, myself, am from a port town and studying in Tbilisi seemed to be hard at first. But with my adaptability skills and determination, this whole experience such as making new friends, living alone and trying to figure out everything on my own, turned out to be enjoyable rather than scary. Also subjects at University of Alicante partly match mine in Georgia and also the programs I chose seem to be really interesting and I hope I will have a chance to study them.
When you study overseas, every step is a learning experience. When you do this through educational and cultural exchange, you gain a deeper understanding of yourself and those around you—deepening your knowledge of foreign cultures and strengthening international relationships. During an exchange program, you won’t have 4 or 5 years to settle down. It makes you even more proactive and flexible in different kind of way, since you have to do all that in just a few months.
I will represent my own country and I will do my best to show our best sides. After coming back, I am sure I will face modern challenges and come up with innovative solutions in the future. Erasmus will open doors of possibilities that were previously beyond my horizons. Exchange programs create opportunities: opportunities for participants to learn, to prosper, and to work with others to solve shared problems and ensure a secure future. Exchanges create future leaders who instinctively appreciate the value of international collaboration, understanding, and empathy. And I hope that I will be able to experience all of it.
Considering my academic performance so far, my desire to enrich the knowledge and I am convinced that I will be a valuable addition to this program. And I am positive that I can meet up your expectations. Thank you for your time and consideration.
