MOTIVATION LETTER URGENT Could you please help me?? I've not much time...

I am applying for a post with the Red Cross and I need to write a motivation letter. However, this is my first time! I already have seen your "guidelines". Could you be so kind as to review my draft?

Tkanks in advance!

Dora

Quote: "Dear Sirs,

I am a 33 year-old Portuguese and I am very interested in becoming a member of International Committee of the Red Cross. I strongly believe that I have the necessary skills and psychological features in order to become an international delegate of ICRC.

Having graduated for two times (Secretary and Law) while working, I acquired great working experience, gaining maturity and learning to work under pressure and to establish priorities.

My work as a secretary also gave me a pragmatic perception of problems and a mental discipline to keep calm when all the other are strained.

During the law course I attended specific subjects and workshops related to international public and private law, namely, humanitarian law, where I had contact with Geneva conventions and with the work carried out by Red Cross. I became very aware of the importance of the missions in the field by international organizations in their constant effort to enforce the dignity of war victims and prevent that conflicts may endanger a minimum standard of rights for every human being.

In a personal point of view, this awareness induced in me a willingness to contribute - even if in a “microscopic” way – to this huge mission of assuring a minimum standard of respect for human lives in scenarios where, most of the times, rational reasoning has disappeared.

Concerning my character, I can say that I am a very flexible person, being able to adapt to different life conditions. Although I can be very persistent defending my opinions, I fully respect the right to be (and to think) different. I distaste any kind of violence, physical or emotional, and firmly believe the violence is not – in any event – the solution.

In what concerns my personal situation, I am divorced with no children and I have always desired to have a professional experience abroad allowing me to meet different kind of people and cultures, which I consider that will make me a richer and better person.

Being aware of the difficulties of working in conflict areas and of keeping a neutral and dispassionate behavior in order to comply with the mission of Red Cross, I firmly believe that I can bring a positive input to the latter.

Kind regards," Unquote.

It is generally fine, Dora.
