Dear Sir / Madam,

I am writing to apply for the exchange program at the Koç University. My name is xxx and I am an education and child-study student at the University of Leiden. At the moment, I’m in the second year of my bachelor. I would like to study abroad for one semester during my third year. In this letter I will explain why I would like to study at the Koç University.

I would like to tell you more about my decision to go abroad. Before I started with this study, I studied Psychology for one year. After that year I discovered that psychology isn’t my interest. The reason why I changed my study was that I found out that I am more interested in working with children and families. In my first year at the University of Leiden I got a few exemptions for courses that I already had completed successfully. In this year I had more time comparing with other students, so I decided to follow courses from the second year. Now in my second year, I follow courses from the third year instead of the courses that I followed before. So I created enough time for myself in the first semester of the third year to study abroad.

In January I made the choice to specialize in clinical child and adolescent studies. After the graduating in clinical child and adolescent studies, I would like to work with children and parents with disabilities. In my work I would like to focus on Turkish families, because my roots are in turkey. To be professional in my work with Turkish families I have to learn as much as possible about these families. The Koç University give me the best opportunity to obtain knowledge about the Turkish families and disabilities. Another reason for me to choose an exchange program in Turkey is that I would like to gain experience how it is to study in my own country and culture.

Before I made the chose for the Koç University, I made a research about the university and I established that it is a big university and licensed over the world. In my research I also discovered that the professors at the Koç University have made a lot of studies that are relevant for my specialization as a professional for child disabilities. I am convinced that this professors can learn me much about education and child development in Turkish families. These reasons motivate me to choose for the Koç University.

I believe that I have an advantage in comparison with other students because I can follow as well as Turkish as English courses. I am a native Turkish speaker but I also master the English language which give me the opportunity to follow courses in both languages. My Turkish origin make it also possible to adapt quickly at the university and to the land itself. This reasons makes me more comfortable to complete my courses. I am persuaded that I have good qualities such as perseverance and as working individual and in groups which give me a greater chance to complete my courses successfully.

I believe I have the capabilities and motivation to study at the Koç University. At the University of Leiden I have proven that I can handle my study very well and I hope I will get a chance to prove this at your university. I hope you will accept me as a student at the Koç University and that I will get the chance to experience life in Turkey. I look forward to hearing from you.
