Motivation Letter to University for Bachelors degree
Below is my motivational letter to a university, where I would like to attend their bachelors degree. Please advise on changes that should be made.
Dear Madam or Sir,
Liberal arts and sciences is a course that I would be highly motivated to study. I have been attracted to various elements of both subjects since I was young. I would love to be able to truly contribute to an improvement for not just me to live well but society as a whole. Reading is not just good 'time spending' but subjects like real life adventures and world developments on planet issues absorb my interest.
I particularly like Geography and learnt a lot from Biology during my IB course. We did a great fieldwork in the local mangrove forests where I met some highly devoted South African conservationists. Their endless bitterness of not being able to improve our environment and their constant struggles with local governments who have nor interest nor understanding of the importance of matters made me realize, that dreaming about how to influence today's climate challenges, requires a much more complex approach which is based on the knowledge that is focused on both environmental and political aspects. My goal is to become one of those experts who are able to understand, plan, communicate and deliver the message to all social levels where action has to take place.
Your university is the best in its kind in the Netherlands and the location suits me personally very much as well. My interest to live and learn about the Dutch is based on the fact that despite I have a Dutch passport (next to my Hungarian) I never had the chance to live in The Netherlands, yet.
Living in a dormitory will give me the opportunity to learn about my fellow Dutch and International students hence is another advantage motivating me to 'go' for your university. Also do I believe, spending time with similar minds will uplift my spirits as well as my knowledge and motivate me to work for top results.
I was born in Istanbul, Turkey and also lived in Africa (Malawi), France, Switzerland and Hungary next to living here today in the United Arab Emirates. Luckily I do not live in Dubai, which has become highly European cultured and touristic, thus giving one no aspect on Arabic culture. At home I speak Hungarian and English with my parents but living in the countries formerly mentioned I also learnt to speak French, German and Swiss German very well since I pursued my studies in these languages at the local schools. Given the opportunity I am now engaged in unraveling the mysteries of Arabic and I have learnt already how to write and read and can participate in a basic conversation. I definitely look forward to finally be able to live in my father’s culture and learn to communicate in its language. My Hungarian background made me appreciate family values and good food but the general attitude that 'life is difficult', 'problems are impossible to solve' and the continuous negative approach in general makes me look for a more fulfilling, more motivated, more ambitious environment. My Dutch heritage has taught me so far that 'the future is unknown and a challenge to be taken'. I am exited to improve my variety of disciplines to a higher level and look very much forward to this experience.
I am an avid sportsperson in any respect, from sailing to football. One sport I particularly like is mountain biking but I also enjoy playing tennis and golf or going diving. Back in Hungary I was devoted to fencing (sabre) and became part of the Hungarian National Selection in 2008. I also earned many medals but moving to other countries did not allow me to continue further training. After discovering the flavor of participating in a team sport in the last two years, a new sport like hockey is on my wish list to learn. Apart from sports, I am also highly interested in photography and creating/editing movies.
I find your website very informative and a great help to make decisions since visiting the Academy on any 'open day' is not only far and expensive for me but also not practical with the school schedules here in the UAE.
Looking forward hearing from you,
Sincerely yours,
