I'm looking for as much ponts of view as I can get. Don't hold yourself back, be harsh if needed. Please help me to make a step of my life in the right shoe)
Dear Sirs,
My name is ***, I’m aspiring sport manager and a sport-addict.
I graduated in 2001 from one of the best *** high schools in top 10 students and owing to that fact and constant participation in regional educational competitions I gained the right of automatic admission to the university. In 2005 ? have completed four years of undergraduate studies in Linguistics at the *** and attained GPA 4.9 out of 5.
Classical Linguistics education in Russia builds major analytical skills and adds to one’s cultural field, open-mindedness and character ethic, that’s why I chose it in the first place. Having such an excellent educational background and trying different fields of work, I couldn’t locate my passion for excellence to a certain ground until I was introduced to a sport industry. In 2000 I watched the TV-aired game of *** Basketball Club and I found my way.
*** has a long and glorious history and is an epitome of grandeur. It cannot be denominated as just a brand name as it carries a trail of people’s (including mine) affection and dedication. *** is also a captain of the industry and all the major initiatives and breakthroughs would be conceived here. After several attempts to book a job in the Club I finally dared to direct to the C.E.O. during the yearly fan convention and talked him into trying me. I remember his observation at the time: “I see that one day I will be telling people that I “pulled this girl off the street” and she rocked it” - and I know someday I will live to it. I entered the Club and driven by my dream I gave my best and succeed in every project I was given since: I organized crucial meetings, I established essential relations, as a Club representative I became a part of 2010 FIBA World Championship which is one of the ultimate goals of a person working in sports.
Sport, and especially, sport event is my flame, an extract of pure passion. The crisis situations happening in the presence of thousands of agitated people, ones that should be solved meticulously and hands-down are my devotion. This feeling that you have a control over a situation like a pilot in a nosedive is the only legitimate drug and my perception of excellence in the profession.
But to channel this exuberant game energy all the business processes must be in place first of all. Throughout the recent years the strategy of Russian basketball industry development showed its weakness as the analysis indicates a constant decrease of public interest to the game. TV rights are marginal for the broadcasters, the stands are emptying, 80% of clubs budgets originate from sponsorships related to government sport policy, which means that the clubs don’t produce any profit. The state of business incompetency destroys the institutional basis of the sport product, i.e. aura of people’s agitation and dedication to the game.
As I witnessed in the case of FIBA World Championships in Turkey with the right approach the tables can be turned around. But as Albert Einstein put it ’Problems cannot be solved at the same level of awareness that created them’. I’m seeking for the additional education that can bring me to the level of competency that is sufficient to apply the right business strategy to *** first of all, having in mind development of the whole Russian basketball industry. I’m infatuated by the idea of putting together the sound business strategy and helping my favorite Club to benefit from an experience and educational recourses of the country where sport has always been a central feature of the social and cultural aspects.
Sport Management course was launched in Russia 4 years ago and doesn’t have a clear structure yet. Besides it is based on the showcases of Russian sport industry which is generally not very mature. Thus Australia came first to my mind in relation to my future Master degree. Moreover I’ve already studied in Australia in 2006 (improving my English) and I will not spend time in adjusting myself to the lifestyle and mentality that I already familiar with and admire.
I want to study at *** University because its Sport Management course was highly appraised by not only Russian education providers but also by agents of another Australian universities, not to mention employees of the Australian sport agency (The Great Big Events) I met at the FIBA World Championship 2010. The structure of your course meets all my requests to the knowledge I’m planning to apply in my work.
I believe that my favor for excellence brings me up to the level of your university. Generally I think that my passion and commitment to sport will help me to create industry benchmarks in future that all be based on the knowledge obtained in the university, therefore I will transmit the high standards of *** to the sport industry. Moreover I can benefit to the program by sharing and showcasing the inside of the Russian National industry enriching the experience of my fellow students.
Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your acceptance.
