Dear Madam or Sir,

I’m writing to apply for the Bachelor Programme in Information Technology, at your university, beginning from fall semester of the academic year 2005-2006.

I have a bilingual (French - Turkish) baccalauréate of sciences from Galatasaray High School in Istanbul, Turkey. I also studied English, for six years, as a secondary foreign language but I learnt English as good as French, which was the medium for communication for the majority of the courses that I have studied. In high school, I studied more foreign languages, Italian and Latin for two years. After graduation, six months of preparation and one year of work, I followed training in technical section, formation that has specificity, on software development and data communication systems.

My interest in computer technologies started out as a hobby, at the age of 12, by the beginning of the second preparatory class in Galatasaray High School, where I studied for 8 years. I had the opportunity to study in our school’s computer lab. There, I received basic information on operating systems and programming. I spent my free times in the computer lab improving my skills. With time, I became one of the efficient students on informatics, in the high school. I was in the team who founded Galatasaray High School Computer Sciences Group, to obtain financial support for our studies. The administration gave us the responsibility to run the school's computer related work in return of this financial aid, such as building high school’s and Europe-at-School Projects’ official web sites, in 2000, 2001, 2002 and in 2003, where I worked a lot. We also provided IT support for school’s computer system as well as the help to the other social activities like presentations, festivals, etc. Each member of the group gave lessons to our school’s students about computer technologies, like using computers efficiently, graphics design, building web sites and programming. At 8th and 9th grades, I was chosen by the president of data processing center, to participate in the National Olympics of Informatics. At 10th, I became the president of school’s Computer Science Group, the responsible for all matters.

After graduation, to further prepare myself better for the program, I enhanced my knowledge on software development. Then I participated in the development of a computer game, as a co-programmer of the project, called NovaTR. By the beginning of June 2004, I worked at one of Turkey’s leading telecommunications companies, for 8 months. I found the opportunity to practice my knowledge on data communication systems, in technical service. I also helped to the DSL Call Center, in order to learn better end-user’s needs and finding the most effective solutions.

The information technology is not just a hobby for me but also the way that I will continue my education in, in the international way. I suppose that software development is the job, where I can show my capabilities in the most productive way. And that's why I would like to specialize in software engineering.

It is my hope to learn more about Information Technology in your university. *** University is my first choice as a university to continue my studies, both because seems to me the most appropriate programme to continue my studies, and I was encouraged and well-motivated about your country, by advices of my friends who are studying in different universities in the Netherlands. I am confident that the Bachelor’s Program in Information Technology offered by your institution will provide me knowledge, confidence, and contacts to realize my dreams.

Enclosed are my curriculum vitae and some references from my former teachers from High School. I am trying to send you the results of the TOEFL test in a near past. If you require further details, you may contact me via e-mail and phone.

Thank you very much for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response, in the near future.

Sincerely yours,
