Motivation letter - please, please help to review it.

Short description of your future professional plans / why you wish to take part in the MAIS programme.

I am delighted to apply for the Master’s Programme in Advanced International Studies.

I graduated in June 2004 from *** State University with a degree in international relations. Traditional humanitarian education gave me a wide range of knowledge in the fields of history, political science, economics and law focusing on their international aspect. Further education on the master’s level at the *** would help to deepen my knowledge in the international relations and concentrate on specific area of research.

I intend to specialize in the European Union and its integration processes because of their uniqueness and actuality in the modern system of international relations. As a Russian citizen I have a deep interest in the issues of cooperation between the EU and Central and Eastern Europe. The new possibilities and the new challenges that both sides have to face after the break of socialist camp create a wide field for researching and analyzing of the new problems and perspectives. I believe that constructing various links and connecting both of European regions is one of the most important tasks for the young generation of professionals. My goal is to pursue a career in the international organization in Europe or work on international level in business that would be connected with European Union and its transactions with Central and Eastern Europe. Due to changes in the old system of international cooperation there is an acute shortage of professionals of this orientation that I do hope to fill.

Participating in the MAIS programme would be a significant step towards my career goals as its academic focus allows to concentrate my major on such problems as widening of Europe, integration and cooperation with Central and Eastern Europe, analyse how the nations' political leaders, government officials, and business executives handle upcoming challenges.The location in Austria, beautiful country connecting two parts of Europe, would be an ideal place to get a recognized education on the European issues and get a deeper understanding of them. Considering my special interest in pursuing career in international organization I am highly motivated to visit their headquarters in the frames of the MAIS programme.

International reputation of the *** attracts students from all over the world, resulting in the promise of a stimulating intellectual and cultural life. This also creates an encouraging study environment for focused research and completion of the degree. Additionally, I would very much look forward to meeting new people, sharing cultural experience, perfecting my German and enjoying international atmosphere of marvelous Vienna with its great history.
