Motivation letter - PhD application

Good afternoon,

I am applying for a PhD in Milan, and I would like to know if it is correct or not. It is the first time I write a motivation letter:

I am applying to your PhD program of “-------” starting in October 2012. My career ambition is to become a doctor researching in seismology, more specialized in ancient buildings and their improvement in seismic performance.

I studied “-------” at Univers...... I graduated in June 2010 doing my master thesis in Polit....., Poland, within an Erasmus program.
I am continuing my academic career with the study of a multinational degree called Advanced Erasmus Mundus Master in “----------”. Four different Universities are involved in this program; Unive..... in Portugal, Technical Univers...., Univers..... in Italy and Technical Univers...... in Spain.

I have several academic interests to apply for your institution. Your university is one of the best in Italy and in Europe. The professors involved in the researching teams I am interested in are very well known and very professional researchers. However, the most interesting motivation for me is the integration between engineering and heritage protection developed in your institution.
Focused in the PhD program, I think there are a lot of researches to develop in the field study, especially if they are focused on the analysis of ancient buildings. Many times old structures are more seismic resistant than new buildings, and they are an important source of knowledge for seismic performance improvement. In addition, seismic reinforce of existing buildings is one of the most interesting fields for me.
Furthermore, I want to study at Politecnico di Milano for several personal reasons. I was two times in Milan, and also in another cities surrounding such as Padova, Verona, Bergamo, etc, and I am totally in love with this part of Europe. I also like Italian people, way of living and history.
From speaking with other PhD students involved in this program and professors from your university and other universities, I am confident of my decision.

I am confident that I will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm to your program and I am sure to exceed your expectations. I will enrich the program by enabling fellow students and professors to benefit from my ambitious and open nature. Furthermore, my international background and interdisciplinary education will add more diversity to your program.
