Dear Sir or Madam,

I would like to apply to the MA in New Media programme at the ML.

Studying at the University of *** is a perfect choice for me both academically and experientially. the opportunity to meet different students who are interested in media is of something that I put much value upon. I hope that the diversity and academical excellence of the program will bring out the best in me.

I believe that I am a suitable person to study New Media at your university. I have experience in group work using digital media tools and an ability to function in an international environment. I know the values of teamwork and hard work as these are the cornerstones of success.

I have always been interested in the media and the way it affects different people. We live in a world where media are omnipotent: an increasing number of people spend a great deal of time watching television, reading newspapers and magazines, surfing on the internet. Children already spend more time watching television and playing computer games than they do attending lessons in school. We need to accept the impact of the Media and appreciate their importance as elements of culture in today's world. Arguments for the study of the media as a preparation for responsible citizenship are formidable now and with the development of communications technology ought to be irresistible. Contemporary society is media-saturated. It is said that the distinction between reality and media-reality is blurred. Every sphere of human experience; the personal, the economic, the political, the cultural, the moral and the aesthetic, is mediated. There has been a significant increase in the growth of the management and manufacture of information, and its dissemination by the media, and an increasing predominance of visual communication and information in many areas of society. Children and teens are spending an increasing amount of time using new media like computers, the Internet and video games, without cutting back on the time they spend with “old” media like TV, print and music. Instead, because of the amount of time they spend using more than one medium at a time (for example, going online while watching TV), they’re managing to pack increasing amounts of media content into the same amount of time each day.

Thinking about my future career I see myself in a position which is related to media management and media productions. I want to be able to make decisions, to think and to use my theoretical knowledge practically. Problem solving is something that really excites me. After reading about the courses that New Media students take, I felt that I finally found something that really fits me. I have come to recognize that a deep and solid education provided by your programme is needed for me to pursue my career in new media area. Therefore, if I successfully graduate from the programme and I will make practical use of what I have learned.

Personally, I am a perseverant person, someone who is motivated and ambitious. My teachers and supervisors knew me as a courteous and resourceful student, and my classmates knew me as a pleasant friend and an enthusiastic coworker. With my good command of English and Finnish, I will not have difficulty in studying subjects taught in those languages. I have also taken part in many social activities and worked with foreigners, so I am able to adapt to a constantly changing work environment and maintain good working relationships with individuals of different cultural backgrounds .

To sum up, I consider my qualifications and interests, as exposed above and in my CV, to be sufficient to enable me to make a good course at your programme and make good use of all the knowledge I gather throughout this program in the future and later career. I really hope my application will be considered and accepted. I am looking forward to the opportunity to study at your university and to making a great contribution to your community.
