Motivation Letter - Help would be most appreciated

Hi guys,

I am on my way to finalize my motivation letter for an application to a German univeristy and I am just stuck. It would be so awesome to get some 3rd part to read it and make a comment. I really hope someone have the time to help me and thanks in advance!

Best,
Albert

Your motivation to apply for the chosen Msc / elective track to your previous education / work experience
I am on my way to finish my bachelor degree in geography from University of xxx this summer. The division of the programme into human and physical geography has enabled me to study a broad mix of topics – from urban planning to geology. My first real exposure to the environmental field was a course called Important Flows in Society which introduced me to the concept of ecological footprint – how we stress the planet by our modern day living. Through analyzing environmental indicators the severity and diversity of present human induced environmental problems was a shocking revelation to me. I have therefore used all my electives in the environmental field.
Through these courses I have acquired technical skills in the relationship between climate change and forestry – for instance biophysical functioning of trees and the development of carbon projects. Also social aspects such as global forest policies and the role of forest depedent indegenious people have been covered.
Entering online courses in climate change and forestry attended by students from all over the globe was my first exposure to working in this field in a global context. Several of my fellow students were from developing countries characterized by high deforestation rates and limited forest governance. This cultural exchange made me realize the global aspect of the problem and made me more open-minded to different perspectives on achieving sustainability.
In my last semester I was selected a Nordlys (Nordic exchange programme) student at University of xxx in forest rich Sweden. Through field trips to nearby forestries I acquired more hands-on experiences complementing my theoretical knowledge. For instance I became conversant with the historic as well as recent deforestation practices in the Swedish context that has been crucial in achieving a sustainable forest use.
Studying international forestry at your university will give me the opportunity to further strengthen my skills in analyzing and reflecting on current international forest governance, forest management techniques and ecosystem functioning. I want to use the specializing opportunity to apply these skills into the field of tropical forestry.
Motivation to apply in relation to your future aspirations; preferred working field
My main career aspiration is to become a researching scientist in the field of tropical forest ecology and biodiversity. One of the things that has been most striking as well as frustrating to me when studying ecosystems is the high degree of complexity and how much remains to be learned about their functioning and importance for humans. Learning about adaptive management will provide with a good foundation of addressing this uncertainty. The strong emphasis on preparing the graduates for Phd’s and academic careers through research based training will be a stepping stone towards accomplishing this dream and in the future hopefully contribute to the scientific base. This required me to be independent and innovative as I applied mathematical concepts not learned in my programme to assess sustainability issues in China. The satisfactory feeling of conducting an individual research project was my
Due to my geographical background, I have a strong interest and knowledge on global processes and the Global South. In a forestry course, I did a paper on forest dependent indigenous people. Far too often their voices are not heard – for instance in the COP-process. I think the role of forest NGO’s such as the Global Forest Coaliation is important in integrating all the interests put on forests in a sustainable manner. Several of the courses offered in this elective track such as International Forest Governance and Forest Resources and Their Goods and Services will provide me with a good foundation to pursue a career as a consultant in a forest NGO to secure a reasonable international forest governance focused on equality.
3 contributions
Academic excellence
My geographical background has proved very strong in my environmental electives. My multidisciplinary knowledge and hard work made me excel among the best in these courses. I have been granted with solely A’s and B’s (international grading system) in my elective environmental courses.
Flexibility
In my geography courses I have had several experiences with project-based group work. Due to my commitment and academic perfection I have on several occasions ended out as team leader but always secured that everybody has had their say in the projects. I decided to move away from this approach in the two major academic papers and as one of the only on making these on my own. This developed my individual analytic and problem-solving skills and flexibility towards whatever teaching method is applied.
Personal passion
My interest for the environmental field goes far beyond the walls of the university. I have wwofed (meaning volunteering at organic farms) on several occasion - for instance in Georgia and Canada. This has given me heads-on knowledge on a simpler and more eco-friendly way of living. For instance I worked at a winery and learned a great deal about soil ecology.
3 Benefits
Internship
Heads-on work experiences through the internship will form a great relationship between the outside world of forestry and the acquired theoretical knowledge. During my bachelor I have missed this link. The usefulness of the internship is reflected in subsequent employment for some of your former graduates. I will use this opportunity to pursue my dream in research and do mine in a university department in Germany or abroad.
Project based learning
Field trips and problem-oriented projects with fellow students from different nationalities, cultures and academic backgrounds will prepare me for a typical working situation in this field.
University of excellence
The emphasis on highly qualified extern and intern doctorates and professors as educators with different expertise areas makes me confident that each area of the master will be on a high academic level and give me a great foundation for my continuing career in forestry.
I appreciate the opportunity to make some elaborate thoughts on why I think I am a suiting candidate for this master. I am confident that I will bring the same level of enthusiasm and commitment to the master
