Motivation letter for UK university. Please, help me.

I am applying to UK university and I need help in writing motivation letter. Please help me and write whether it is OK or not, Thank You all, in advance.


Dear Sir and Madam:



I would like to apply to Master’s in Economics at XXX University for fall semester from the next year. I am now senior in Azerbaijan at the Baku State University and my major is International Economic Relations. I am studying here since 2008 and this year I am going to finish my bachelor’s degree. However, I would like to continue my education in one of the developed countries. In my opinion, education in one of the best universities of the world could be good bases for my future professional career. Even in secondary school I’ve worked hard in order to enter the university. This was my first long term goal and I am very happy that I have realized it as a result of hard efforts. I have learned a lot during my studies at the university and I’m learning every another day improving my skills and expanding knowledge. In spite of fact that I did well in courses, I did extra efforts to learn more via communicating with my professors via internet or orally and asking them for additional information or sources. In fact learning two different languages - English and Russian - gave me a big opportunity to get information from diverse sources. Now I can definitely say that I know economics theory much better that my peers. Also reading different books and publications about economics and modern tendency become a part of my life. Within books “Principles of Economics” by Gregory Mankiw and “Wealth of Nations” by Adam Smith are my favorable ones.



Moreover, since my first year at the university I was aware of necessity of English Language in my life, future education and career. Reason for that was simple, when I was reading books I realized that I can understand overall meaning quite well, however, some economic terms were challengeable for me to understand. With the help of my parents I went to London to Mayfair School of English last year in 2010 and improved my knowledge in English by taking 2 months extensive course in Business English in London. During this time I have also been in one of the oldest universities in the world Oxford and that had great impact on me and my willingness to study abroad and experience foreign culture in long term. While visiting Oxford I met lots of people from other countries and also my home country and definitely realized that the education that I get in my home country is not enough to for me to be competitive enough in fast growing market, so I’ve to study abroad in order to harmonize myself in market.



As I did well my theoretical lessons at university, I learned a lot about profit, net income, taxation, 4C’s, Potter’s 5 Forces, Competitive advantage etc. But I could hardly find out a place to implement my theoretical knowledge into practice. Fortunately for me my uncle had shop for selling man’s wear so I spend my whole vacation working with him, helping and of course earning some money for myself. Overall it was very good practice for me, because now I know how the system works and most of the time it’s not the same what books says.



For applying to the XXX University I have some reasons which I would like to enlist as follows.



First and foremost, I would like to emphasize that is, actually, a big problem for every country, especially, for developing countries regarding the way how to deal with the economy. Having a good, stabilized and dynamically growing economy brings good political reputation among the countries. In spite of the fact that Azerbaijan gained its independence only in the end of the previous century, it has been developing continually throughout these 20 years. Our economy is one of the fasters growing one’s now, but still need some innovations, bright ideas. One of the main problems in our economy stems from the lack of professional and trained economists and managers who have only solid knowledge of market economy. In this case in order to generate more revenue and control the existing one we need more and more young professionals. Who would be a good professional?! As a senior student of biggest and oldest university of Azerbaijan I can realize that there are only few people who really think about knowledge and think that education could give them much more. Fortunately for me and my family I’m one of these guys.

Azerbaijan gets essential part of its revenues from extracting and exporting of crude oil and gas. This industry is very vital for both our government and our nation. Nonetheless, these non-renewable resources are going to deplete in some day. After a few decades there will not be oil or gas any more. We will have to do something to get alternative sources to fill our budget. To solve this problem we need young people with modern world vision and perfect education.



In this case I totally believe that best education which I would get in XXX University will help me to become professional in my field and via this built up my future carrier. As I’m considering coming back to my home country, Azerbaijan and built my career there it’s definitely seen that I will contribute my skills and education in development on my country. Education in XXX University is not only about getting narrow knowledge in field of expertise for me but also to develop my skills, develop business and personal relations and overall to develop my personality as a future specialist who will invest all his potential in developing of his country.



It is well known that UK is one of the wealthiest countries of the world and it has very strong economy. However, our country is newly established country and it pursues way of Western Economy. Most of us think that Western Economy is perfect and flawless one. My aim is to learn all pros and cons of this economy and analyze it. UK economic model is one of the best examples of Western Economy. For me, to learn certain thing everyone should be inside of it. That’s why I would like to study Western economy in its homeland - UK. In my opinion, the experience which I will get at XXX University will give me chance to contribute economy of my country. It could be strong basis for establishing new economic model for Azerbaijan also, certainly it could not be implemented as it is but at least some elements could be taken.



Moreover, Azerbaijan gains its revenues mostly from exporting crude oil and gas. It is well known that one of the biggest oil companies is British Petroleum. BP arranges and in other words “dominates” among all other oil and gas companies. In my opinion, I can learn a lot of information about its management and structure which I cannot learn by my own or by our educational system. It would be useful for me when I work in our State Oil Company – SOCAR in the future. I believe that the knowledge which I will gain in XXX University will give a big opportunity to contribute development of my country’s economy and entirely of the region’s as well. This has become my aim since I feel myself as a part of society.



Moreover, I know that mathematics and econometrics are very important for modern economics in almost every university in the developed countries. But we were taught Supreme Mathematics only one semester, and we do not have very skilled teachers in econometrics in our country, though we studied it for a year. The reason of that is the Econometrics is the newly studying subject for us. I would like to study Economics based on Mathematics and Econometrics and believe that it would be beneficial both for me and for my country as I’m thinking about becoming a lecturer from one of these subjects in my first university after graduating from McMaster University. In my opinion, that type of economic knowledge better fit demands of market economy. I believe I can get this education in the XXX University.



For these reasons I’d like to study at the XXX University and believe that this education will be beneficial not only for me and my family but also for our community. I want to sum up all my ideas with one native proverb: “Knowledge is expanding by sharing”
