Motivation letter for scholarship for masters

Question

Hello, I'm writing my motivation letters to apply for master's degree in the Netherlands.
Also I need another motivation letter for this University, and I am already sending them my motivation letter for the degree programme.
So this scholarship motivation will be adding to it.
But I'm just posing the one for scholarship, so if any of you can help, please do.. I'm desperate.
Am I making a strong point?
FYI, I talked about my motivation to study new media by mentioning my school and teaching experience in the motivation letter for the programme.

I am writing to apply for xxx Scholarship for Master’s programme in Media Culture starting in September, 2013. I will graduate from xxxx University, School of Media in February 2013. My degree focuses on media theories and persuasive communication and I also took several media classes in Canada which were highly project-oriented. Through my studies in both Korea and Canada, I became deeply fascinated by the limitless prospects of new media, and realised that I have countless academic questions to ask about the field.

In 2011, I was selected by ISEP to study in Canada for two semesters. The exchange programme was fully funded by ISEP and the fact that I was given help made me try harder to get the most out of the experience. I could establish my goal to become a media researcher after conducting a research project with 68 subjects from various nations. I wanted to observe how and why they consume news on their mobile devices and if the answers have any correlation with nationalities. I still remember the thrill to finally realise that there were actually four more groups that showed distinguishable consuming patterns. At the end of the exchange I was eager to study more about contemporary media and its audience.

The motivation became a determination while working in PR industry. I experienced in practice the significance of the internet media and on-line communication and witnessed the impact of the internet that draws active reactions from the audience. Being an assistant Account Executive helped me gain firm understanding on on-line communication and I believe this will facilitate me to develop and conduct interesting researches during the master’s programme in Media Culture at xxxx.

Eventually I aim to produce innovative ideas by learning the skills to conduct researches through Master’s programme and to contribute my ideas to the education and entertainment industry in and outside of Korea. xxx University has the optimal place to learn how to actively cast the most innovative questions on contemporary media and answer them through my own studies. My ambition is already fueled with determination and motivation. Becoming a beneficiary of xxx Scholarship will be an ignition to make it come true and I would truly hope to get the chance to prove my determination.

I am writing this letter to express my interest in Master’s programme on Media Culture at xxxx University starting in September, 2013. Through my studies in both Korea and Canada, I became deeply fascinated by the limitless prospects of new media, and realised that I have countless questions to ask about this field.

My interest in art as a special medium of communication led me to take many art classes during my bachelor’s programme. I aimed to find a way to incorporate art into media theories to enrich my major studies, and investing almost one-third of my credits to art classes was among the best choices I have made. Among art classes, ‘Interactive Media Art’ was the trigger that sparked my interest in new media. Through this class I discovered that new media allows an active interaction between the audience and the media, making the audience more prone to receive the messages. Because I have always been interested in the misrepresentation of reality on media, my fascination over new media’s reciprocal relationship with the audience has been growing ever since.

The motivation to study new media was firmed into a determination during my exchange year in Canada. In 2011, I was selected by ISEP to be fully funded for two semesters. Through my constant interaction with children, I was able to narrow down my interest in new media specifically on how to apply this knowledge into educational realm. Over the 5 years of teaching English to young students, I realised that their lives were overly dependent on games and the internet. What’s more, they were very passive in using the web, not knowing how to obtain necessary information on those numerous websites. I grew to believe deeper studies on how to incorporate the interactivity of new media into education will be able to help our future generation to utilise new media in healthier ways.

I was very excited when I found out about Media Culture programme at xxxxand especially the class ‘Game Culture’. Through this class, I would like to delve deeper into the minds of active young audience and the educational application of games and new media. Children’s gaming has been a serious problem in South Korea to the point that government enacted a shut-down policy. Therefore I believe here in Korea researches on healthier use of new media are needed more than ever. I aim to produce innovative researches on how to better utilise new media, and by better I not only mean more effective, but more ethical and healthier. I hope to learn the skills to conduct researches through Master’s programme at *** and eventually contribute my ideas to the education and entertainment industry in and outside of Korea.

Moreover, the international composition of students at xxxx is another thrill to look forward to, because I will be able to yield better researches through sharing opinions and experiences with students from diversified cultural backgrounds. I believe my international experience of studying and living in Canada and Korea will allow me to quickly adjust and become an asset in the highly diverse environment in the Netherlands and xxxx.

My strong background in media studies and diverse experience in media art and industrial design will allow me to creatively approach the Problem-Based-Learning system at xxxx. I believe that both my multicultural and diverse academic backgrounds will allow me to successfully accomplish this challenge with a positive and global mindset.

Below is my second draft... I know for sure it needs a lot a lot a lot to be added and taken out...
but I am awake for too long to look at it anymore...

I would like to express my confidence to successfully accomplish the Master programme at xxxx by elaborating on my academic interest and personal traits. With my focused interest in new media and related work experience, I am confident that I will exceed your expectations and be worthy of your financial support.

My academic interest lies in using new media to educate young audience, not just borrowing its format, but shifting the educational paradigm into a whole new level. I believe developing media technology will introduce new concepts of education through games, entertainment or interactivity, and the new way of education will be able to cover extensively from school materials to socialization issues. (for example, racial minority, gender stereotypes) I would hope to become a part of the change through training my research skills at *** University.

The reason why I am focused on an educational application of new media is that I learned the impact that media has over the audience, and I believe such influence should have a cause. While working in PR industry, I witnessed the impact of on-line communication that, if used appropriately, draws active reaction from the audience. I also saw inaccurate rumors disguised as legitimate information having the same impact. I believe deeper studies on new media theories and ethics are needed.

Besides my academic ambition, I believe my insightful and driven nature will be an asset to the programme. In most of the cases, it was natural that I become the team leader in team projects during my Bachelor’s programme. Since I comprehensively understood the purposes and flows of the assignments, I was also elected as the presenter. I assess that this was because I am insightful. I am capable of observing the given task with objectivity and suggest to the members the core issues that should be addressed. Learning leadership by being a leader is a given, but what I learned through it was the fun in being the main agent to cast the research questions. In retrospect, most of my team projects, regardless of which class they were for, were the studies of my choice, which I believe taught me the excitement on resolving academic curiosities and made me desire to become a researcher.

I am also a driven student with agile learning skills. As soon as I realised my goal, I got an internship at Taylor Nelson Sofres, a globally renowned marketing research company. I chose to work in a healthcare team, which was notorious for its heavy workload and use of pharmaceutical jargons. However, as I am a person who always seeks and thrives on intellectual challenges, even memorising the names of hepatic diseases was exciting. I obtained skills to analyse quantitative and qualitative data that I could use for my own studies. Also by attending biddings and interviews, I learned how hugely funded research projects are developed and conducted.

In all honesty, my Bachelor programme was too short for me to explore my interests, if not determine my goal, and produce many works to prove my skills. Master’s degree at xxxx will not be a final achievement but a stepping stone for me to become an informed media researcher. With Problem based Learning system, xxxx University is the optimal place to learn how to actively cast innovative questions on contemporary media and answer them through self-driven studies. I truly believe that given the chance, I will not only improve myself but also contribute to the classes.

My ambition is already fueled with determination and motivation. Becoming a beneficiary of *** Scholarship will be an ignition to make it come true and I would truly hope to get the chance to prove my determination.
