Hello, I would like to apply for PhD scholarship, here is my motivation letter. any suggestions, advises and corrections are highly appreciated, as I think it is a bit long. Thank you for your consideration
Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to apply for the PhD position in catalysis at the ... in the autumn of 2014. Having reviewed several PhD programs, in consultation with career advisors, I am confident that the ... has an excellent PhD program that best meets my career goals and aspirations. I completed a Master of Science degree in Chemical Engineering at the.... With an outstanding academic record based upon a challenging curriculum, average score above 90 percent, ranking among the top three students, publishing scientific articles and participation in national and international conferences, I am proud of my achievements. Complementing my strong academic performance are my advanced skills in leadership and communication. In several of the projects during my studies, I was the team leader responsible for building and leading our project team. As the team leader, I was responsible for distributing project assignments and responsibilities as well as governing interpersonal relationships. More ever, I learned to understand how emotions, especially enthusiasm, can motivate others. I believe Academia provides me a unique chance to enhance my knowledge both through independent working and as a team member. Meeting other ambitious researchers and participation in scientific discussions will be a driving force which can pushes me to explore and learn new subjects. Also, it helps me to pursue my PhD studies to actively promote my knowledge through direct research at higher level and to gain significant experiences from the process, particularly about the development of modern strategies of sequestration and storage of CO2 and converting it into functional chemicals specially applying photo and electro-catalytic approaches, in high research level. Since I think although there are many obstacles to overcome in implementing these fuels for common usage, it is rapidly growing and enormously promising field, which will become the focus of international competition in the near future. After completing my B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering, I began to work in some companies and organizations such as A Co., B Co., C Co. and D University as a product manager, project engineer, QA expert and teacher respectively. This gave me the golden opportunity to practice to be more organized and obtaining some attitudes toward delivering results within a time frame according to deadlines. Not to mention, I also got so confidence working so now I am comfortable with any kind of collaborations. Also, I know how to organize my points and express concepts in a coherent manner, because I have major academic teaching experiences both during my education in the university as a teaching assistant and after it as a teacher. Teaching in academic places not only thought me a lot of precious experiences about the best ways of communicating with other people and transferring my knowledge, but also it assisted me to be fresher and more scientifically up-to-date . I put together an integrated knowledge with experiences in working for my Master’s degree where I have done several projects in various areas, mainly “Study of the Feasibility of the Production of Demulsifiers Used in Oil Industry Based on Domestic Raw Materials”, and attained more theoretical and practical experiences as well as essential skills about working with programming tools (MATLAB , visual Basic, C+ and Linux), and technical software (like Hysis, Aspen, ChemCAD, Design ? ,PRO ?, Qualitec 4 and SPSS). Through the experiments I did, I acquainted with the fascinating characters of crude oil, its surface active elements and the best materials of treating it as I worked on twenty three different water-soluble and oil-soluble polymer-based materials that helped me to have a wider knowledge about this field of science. However the negatives of fossil fuels, persuade me to investigate more about the alternative strategies of the production of energy and new approaches to consider harmful chemicals as a resource and business opportunity rather than a waste with a cost of disposal as well as applying state-of-the-art simulation methods to modeling and data processing procedures, since I believe there are existing great gaps for integrating and analyzing the data. I would like to add that now I am working on the “The Feasibility of Chemically Modification of Wood Bio-polymers Towards the Production of Renewable Fuels” that is selected due to restricted availability of petrochemical resources and environmental concerns. I am excited by the prospect of performing research and developing my knowledge besides broadening my horizon in the way of looking at life and humanity because it is a great lesson to see how people with different cultural background can get together by pushing the border of human environment knowledge a bit more, and ultimately making the world a better place to live. It is fun to see different landscape, food, sports, music, and generally how people spend their time with their family, friends, or hobbies. I believe, it would be a great experience for me to be able to communicate with other scientists from different cultures around the world, and it might be a great lesson that I can transfer to my future students. Ideally, I would like to incorporate with the... for my PhD research, because I found this foundation has collaborated in significant researches on different topics. This work history together with current pursuits provide a unique cultural experience which is so impressive, because it makes nations closer to each other, and improves human life through cultural and science dispersion. Furthermore, from speaking with students and professors from your university and other universities, I am confident of my decision to apply to.... As I studied about Chemical Engineering, I tentatively set my research goals in the field of investigating the chemical pathways of production novel renewable fuels, their process optimization, characterization and application. Additionally, with many distinguished scientists as professors, I know that I will gain expert knowledge at the forefront of discovery. All these strong positives allow me to research cutting-edge technologies, such as novel photo- and electro-catalytic approaches, and to pursue my dreams and ambitions. Concerning my personality, I am confident that I will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm to your program. I am sure to exceed your expectations, because of both my academic and interpersonal skills as well as the experience gained from my internship. I will enrich the program by enabling fellow students and professors to benefit from my ambitious and open nature. Furthermore, my international background and interdisciplinary education will add more diversity to your program. Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your acceptance.
Sincerely yours,
