motivation letter for phd
please help me with this letter, i have struggled for weeks. I am not a native speaker so i really need comments and advises on the letter to improve my confidence.. any help will be appreciated. thank you!
Dear professor,
I am writing to apply a PhD. position in the University xxx’s doctoral program. I intend to join a leading university or a research laboratory to continue investigate international accounting and social and environmental accounting after successfully complete the program.
In 2008, I obtained my bachelor degree in accounting with honors first class, which placed me at top 5% in the class of more than 200. Complementing my strong academic record critical thinking is another strength I gained in this period thanks to some enlighten courses such as advanced financial theory. I acquaint myself of the fact that accounting is not fully developed and still abundant with controversial issues. Among which, I was especially fascinated by the collisions of scientific views involved in the development of accounting standards. Furthermore, the process of writing the paper, critical evaluation of IFRS written in the final year of the bachelor degree, triggered my ambition to engage in academic world as I rejoiced over the circulation of acknowledging my ignorance and knowing more.
I decided to apply master degree in 2012 so that I can practice research under instruction, in where I accessed to sufficient research resources and acquired various skills. What is more, my independence has been strengthened for more skills and techniques I explored and learned independently. Additionally, I discovered more fascinating research areas while reading accounting journals. Social and environmental accounting is the one I would commit myself to as I was raised to be environment-concern. I used to form an environment team in 2008 for the Olympic torch relay and take part in many environment activities. Therefore, contributing to environment through work is my aspiration. In 2014, I graduated with an impressive thesis on goodwill accounting which captured my supervisor’s attention to publish together.
2014 is an extraordinary gap year for me as I delayed my academic career plan but to experience other life possibilities. I traveled globally and met people with diverse cultures and backgrounds. I also acquainted myself with other possible career paths. However, my interest and ambition still lie on academic research. I deemed to be a fearless and innovative researcher. With my prior academic record and my ambition on research I believe I can be a very competitive candidate.
