Motivation letter for PhD

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to you in order to apply to your PhD program: “Simulation ...” at the Institute .... I have been seeking just such an opportunity as this, and I believe that my education, research experience and background would be a good match for your requirements.
After I had graduated Chair of Physics of X University (Russia) in 2012, I entered the Institute of .... Now I’m a first year PhD student in the physical electronics division. The subject of my thesis is the investigation of microstrip active log-periodic antenna properties in quasi-optical cavity. It is an experimental work having a deal with another research on synchronization and power combining of antennas arrays.

As regards to my Master's study, the courses were devoted to Electrodynamics and Electronics of Microwave Devices, Modeling Complex Physical Systems, Non-linear Oscillations and Waves, Statistical Radiophysics, Quantum Electronics, Computer Techniques in Science and others. Bachelor's program provided a strong theoretical basis in Fundamental Physics, Mathematical Analysis and Geometry, which are essential in dealing with complex problems. My grade point average is over 90 out of 100. During my study at the university, I realized a number of computational modeling projects of various physical systems (numerical solution of some differential equations and partial differential equations, signal analysis – FFT and wavelet). I’m familiar with C++, Delphi and Matlab as well. For example, now I’m carrying out a simulation project dealing with the transmission and receiving of ultra wideband noise signal with help of double spectrum analysis.

Since 2011 I have been working in Fryazino branch of the Institute of ... I have had 4 articles in Russian Scientific Journals and one poster report at All-Russian workshop on radiophysics of millimeter and submillimeter waves.

During my university studies your project was of great importance for me and I have been thinking that it is one of the most valuable and interesting project for all mankind. Based on all this facts, I would to pursue a PhD degree in your laboratory to strengthen my knowledge. After my PhD education I would like to stay in academic field and continue my work as a post-doc researcher.
