Motivation letter for NWU

Hello

I am applying to scholarship in USA and I am very concerned about my motivation letter that I have to present in my homeland. They said that motivation letter would be very important when applying. So could you please help me to correct my mistakes and give some recommendations about the letter.

Dear sir / madam,

I am hereby applying for the scholarship to the Nebraska Wesleyan University (NWU) for the 2011/2012 Fall term.

First of all I would like to present some background about myself. I am very active and sociable person. I have participated in many youth organizations and even created a journalism club for young people in Tartu. Beside that I am always been into singing and as to that I have my own singing project that I am organizing now. There are very many fields that I am interested in – I am providing help to animal shelter and at the same time skydiving.

There are very many reasons why I am applying for the scholarship. To start with, I have also a big interest in different cultures. I have participated in intercultural program “Comenius” which gave me very much knowledge about different European countries. As to that I would really like to broaden my mind, go outside Europe and learn about cultures.

Secondly, I have a great interest in the USA. The land is presented me so vividly with all its nature, culture and people. I have read many books and blogs about it and also heard from acquaintances. My big wish would be to live in the USA for a while and learn the culture and life itself. Also different nations and accents in USA is very interesting theme for me.

Third, as I am studying English language and philology here in Tartu, it would be beyond great opportunity to develop my English skills – grammar, pronunciation, fluency. It would give me so much knowledge about different accents and language itself. It would be so great advantage for me in my studies and would help to develop myself more.

Fourth, I have examined NWU’s website and found out that there are so many interesting majors and minors in my point of view. I think that it would be very hard for me to choose from this great variety of lectures, but at the same time my three fields – English, Psychology and Music is covered there. It could be very educative and developing for me to study something about music there. Also psychology’s and English lectures seem very fascinating.

Finally, it is hard to put in the words, how developing, interesting, educative, enlightening, mind boarding opportunity this would be to me and any of the Estonian students, but the reason to choose me is that I know I can give something back! I would give knowledge about Estonia and its culture to my fellow students in Nebraska and I could share and teach everything that I learned later here in Estonia. This opportunity would give me a chance to expand my journalism club, get knowledge for my musical interest, learn about different nations and cultures and what is the most important to me – develop my English skills to the new level!

Thank you in advance!
