Hi everybody! I'm an Italian bachelor student and I'm willing to get in a Swiss university which offers Master programs entirely in English. Since I've never wiritten a formal letter, I hope you can help me both with the grammar and with the construction of the motivation letter itself.
Here is what is written on the website: "Candidates are required to draft a letter (not more than one page) introducing themselves and explaining their particular interest and reasons for seeking admission to a given Master's degree."
And here's my letter:
Dear Sir or Madam,
My name is XXX and I’m currently a student of Economics, Statistics and Information Technology for Business in the faculty of Economics at YYY graduating this next July.
My bachelor’s degree is mainly focused on Statistics. Although I appreciated my study path which gave me above all a quantitative approach to problems, I’ve also learned that it is not what I’m willing to do in the future. I’ve done two foreign experiences during my school career: one academic year in the US as an High School Exchange Student and one semester in Spain as an Erasmus Student. These two factors (bachelor’s degree focused on Statistics and abroad experiences) made me look for a master that would give me a wide Economics preparation in several areas as well as an international background. So I started gather information about the Master of Science in Management at ZZZ which seems the “perfect solution” since It would also give me a strong command of business English as well as several opportunities to have other international experiences during and/or after finishing the master.
Considering I’m about to get an Economics degree, I consider my Economics background quite weak. By taking part to this master, which is not so focused on one particular field, I will get a wide preparation and hopefully during the process, I will grow a stronger interest in a more specific area that I will have the chance to develop thanks to the elective courses.
By attending the open day back in March, I had the chance to talk with some current students who also have a bachelor’s degree granted by an Italian University. They explained me that the teaching method at ZZZ is quite different: not only traditional lectures and theoretic exams but also case studies and projects designed to apply the theory to practical situations. This is something that really interests me since I’m so ready to learn by applying the theory instead of just studying rules and theorems.
Both during High School and University, I’ve always been a student who did what had to be done even if I didn’t really like nor enjoyed that much what I was studying, and always got results above the average. Now I’m ready to combine my focus on getting good grades with a practical-oriented study path that will give me a fully preparation in the business area with a focus in specific fields all combined with an international scenario.
Thank you very much for your consideration. I look forward to your positive response.
Sincerely,
XXX
Thankyou for your time, hope you can help
