Motivation letter for German Embassy

I have written a motivation letter for the German embassy interview and want to make sure it is appropriate

could someone please review and give me some advice?

Dear Gentlemen,

“Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life”

Those words were said by “Steve Jobs” in 2005 at Stanford university’s Commencement. I watched this speech, and I was impressed especially with those words and how a person must follow his heart and intuition. So that he can achieve what he really wants to become.

Those words have changed my way of thinking since then and I started to think out of the box. From that moment I started to search for an opportunity to start over again and study what I should have been studying from the beginning which is computer science.

Hence I started searching to find that Germany is one of the major political powers in the European continent and a technological leader in many fields and offers a comfortable atmosphere for learning and creativity. It’s the third most popular destination among international students in the world and German university degrees are highly respected by employers worldwide.

With all these conditions, I found Germany a highly recommended place for me to study Applied Computer Science, so I could pursue my future career in Information Technology.

I started to spare money from my salary during my study to attend German language course and fund my studies in Germany.

Accordingly, I started my German language course later in 2015 at “Goethe Institute Alexandria” and started my first level which was very interesting and interactive. I have finished my B1 course and passed my B1 test in all parts, and obtained my B1 Certificate on 09.November 2016.

After a wide research while learning the language, I chose Friedrich Schiller University Jena as one of the oldest and historical universities in Germany.

Friedrich Schiller University Jena offers students an excellent academic learning environment with powerful practical orientation. In addition to the university’s notable alumni which had and an effect on many aspects in the modern economy such as Karl Marx, Ernst Abbe, Carl Zeiss, and much more.

Concerning the bachelor program “Angewandte Informatik”, I found the syllabus very interesting and concentrating on areas of IT, such as software and database development, programming, service and support, web development and web programming, and also marketing and sales.

In addition, the university offers an intern at the 6th semester to gain work experience and prepare practically for the work field after studies.

And I am keen to learn more about the field of applied computer science and its application in real life solutions.

As the B.Sc. Degree program (Angewandte Informatik) is taught in German, I was redirected to a pre-study German course to complete my language proficiency and pass the DSH exam properly. As it was a condition to get admitted to my program. And I’m really looking into it, as I do believe that learning the language properly is more efficient in its own origin. So completing my German language course at the language center of the university of Jena is the best opportunity to get more closely to the language and blend into the culture. Also, I would be able to learn from and communicate with German people and enhance my language proficiency.

Jena is a German university city and the second largest city in Thuringia in central Germany. It’s a center of education and research. In addition, the city’s economy is based on high-technology industry and research like software engineering and other digital businesses. Its moderate weather will enable me to enjoy a lot of pleasurable activities during studies in summer and winter because summers are warm and winters are relatively cold. Nothing here is very far away and most places can be reached on foot or by bike. I would really like to seize the opportunity during my studies to visit most of the historical places at the city. There is a variety shopping centers and supermarkets near Dorms offered by Studierendenwerk thüringen especially “Carl-Zeiss”, which I have already applied to gain an apartment. Jena also is very affordable in housing and food and would be the perfect choice for my budget compared to other cities. I chose Jena because it’s affordable for me, and a very convenient to live in while studying at the University.

Studying applied computer science in Germany would allow me to achieve my future plans in finding the appropriate job I have always wanted, to develop new systems, applications, and even technologies, which would help in facilitating day-to-day life situations. Especially my future project to help developing the country’s inhabitant information system to suit other developed countries in order to facilitate citizens’ governmental procedures.

Concerning my previous studies, I couldn’t get admitted to the Faculty of Engineering – Computer Science Section, as my father was ill and died later that year and I tried my best and finished with GPA= 92.7%, but my score still didn’t fit to the required.

I got admitted to the Faculty of Commerce – Alexandria University and graduated in 2012. During my first year in college, after my father’s death, I had to work alongside with my studies and that didn’t work for me so I postponed that year. In Third year (2006), I started working for 12 hours a week because my brother was getting into college and want to pay his study expenses, besides the charitable work I participated in Resala Association for Charity in the campaign for distributing blankets and clothes in the winter for homeless people on the streets. So I decide to again postpone my studies and I came back in 2010 and finished my two remaining years. Since I have been introduced to the German education, I was keen on keeping my track on getting the requirements to study in Germany the major I was intending to, after finishing my high school. So I worked hard to earn and learn the language to the required level of the subject I applied at Friedrich Schiller University Jena.

It’s needless to argue that today computers are fundamental to almost all aspects of modern life. Business, accounting, design, health care – everything is computer mediated. I want to help in solving my country’s need in such field and collaborate to produce more innovative solutions. Following completion of my bachelor degree, I wouldn’t stop learning, as I will continue to pursue a Master’s degree at Friedrich Schiller University Jena. I believe with such studies, I would be able to attain my future goals in building and developing new and innovative solutions using new technologies acquired from studies, which would help in the new development plan in Egypt.

Eventually, I would put my utmost effort into finishing my studies and achieving the best possible results and I would like to request you to consider my application and grant me the visa for which I shall be highly grateful.

Yours Sincerely,

Don't spend a lot of time telling them about Germany and about Jena. They already know all that.
