Motivation Letter for Erasmus (not a 1st draft)

Hello there.

I'm a portuguese student writing a motivation letter to go on Erasmus programme next year, to Sweden. I understand that the english level among swedes is very high so i am working hard to make this letter sound perfect. But i need help!

This is not a 1st draft as it has been reviewed already 2 times by 2 different people but i still think it is quite short and weak on content. I went through this forum while writing it and followed some of the advice. Could you please take a quick look at it and tell me what you think?

Many thanks in advance.

Pedro Sanches

PS - I'll have to mail it tomorrow afternoon....

----------------------------------DRAFT--------------------------------------

Dear Sir/Madam,

I am writing to apply for a full year project in the Computer Science Department at Royal Institute of Technology. It will be the fifth year of my 5 year degree and, therefore, my thesis, so I believe this is the best opportunity to work and study in a multicultural environment.

I have always lived in Portugal but studying abroad has been always part of my plans. I am a conscious person, dividing my time between studies, reading and music while participating for a local radio and a magazine. I also work as a musician and all my life I have contacted with people from different countries and backgrounds, thus creating a strong thirst for moving out and get to know other cultures.

The Erasmus programme seems like the perfect opportunity to meet other cultures, learn another language, experience other educational system and enrich my curriculum vitae, as well as gain more independence. Swedish culture is, I believe, very different from mine and that is a plus when choosing my destination. I am also aware of the close ties between Royal Institute of Technology and Instituto Superior Técnico, plus it is located in a major IT country. My education would benefit greatly from this factor since Portugal in IT infrastructures and research still has a long way to go and, in this matter, it is really important to learn and be in the frontline.

I have spoken with Prof. XXX XXX, an IST professor who had counseled, in the past, other Portuguese Erasmus students at the Royal Institute and would act as my project coordinator. I am confident I will prove to be an enthusiastic and hard working student.

Thank you for considering my application, and I look forward to your reply.

Hi, It is a little short perhaps. You would normally include some information on your future career plans and how that specific course will help you achieve them. You could also put a little information about the degree programme you are following and how this year will complement what you have already studied.

Thank you so much for your help nona.

I'm sorry i didn't come here earlier but my erasmus process got lagged and my computer got knackered (talking about bad luck huh?).

Anyway, almost 2 weeks later, here is another draft. I'm asking again for your opinion. I don't think that i can push the deadline any further so if you can't comment on it shortly, no problem. At least i

Hi again, this is an excellent letter. I've had a quick scan but go over it for any little errors. One I picked up is that in the final paragraph, your counseled should be spelled counselled. Good luck with your application.
