I would like to express my interest in studying Masters of Bioinformatics in the .



I have completed a four year degree in Information Systems from and I am on the process of completing BCom (Hons) degree in Informatics from the . In addition to these, I have successfully completed one year of a two years Maters Program in Information Technology in the KKK.



Throughout my studies, three courses have been my favorite subjects. These are
Database Management Systems, Data Warehousing and Data Mining. All of them deal with the collection and processing of data from numerous sources to solve problem in various application areas. Data Mining in particular deals with the collection of large amount of data and the application of mathematical and statistical models to find unknown patterns in the data in quest of new knowledge. Processing of large amount of the data in data mining has been possible by the increasing storage and processing capacity of computers which can’t be processed manually.



My interest in Bioinformatics has grown from my interest in data mining and my childhood dream to get involved in the medical field. Bioinformatics is young exciting interdisciplinary field which utilizes models, tools and techniques developed in the information technology fields to solve problems in biology and other life sciences. It integrates both fields into one. This is the reason I like to study bioinformatics. Through studying Bioinformatics, I can fulfill both my dreams through applying what I have learned in data mining and other courses to my childhood dream of being involved in the medical field. I have witnessed what data mining can do in clinics and hospitals on a project done in data mining course. Together with my team, I was able to apply mathematical and statistical models to find patterns and sequences which were not obvious by just inspecting the data. I would very much like to expand that knowledge and apply it in the life science through studying bioinformatics.



I believe studying in will provide me a number of opportunities in my future career. The program includes an internship program which gives students an opportunity to gain practical experience in real-life bioinformatics. It also provides a chance for outstanding students to do a PhD in bioinformatics. If I have the privilege of becoming one of the best students, doing a PhD in bioinformatics is my ultimate goal in my future career. Furthermore, studying in YYY city will provide me an opportunity to meet with other international students increase my horizon.
