Your help will be greatly appreciated!
This is letter i prepared for applying to a program with a Finland university.
Name : Sandeep Kumar Suggam
Degree : Bachelors of Technology
Degree Major : Electronics and Communications Engineering
This is Sandeep Kumar from India and I would like to apply for Erasmus Mundus program Masters of Research on ICT with the program co-ordinator TKK Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. I am very much interested in this program as this is best of the best programs designed which I encountered and best thing about this program is that each university has their expertise to induce in to students with more deeper knowledge. Since 4
th grade in school, I had have interfaced with computing, starting with LOGO, BASIC in school until now with programming and security related tools and skills. My Bachelor Degree was in Electronics and Communication Engineering which has good combination of Electronics, Communications and Computer related subjects which has given wide scope of planning my career. Since my schooling I read articles about computer security related which kept motivating me in starting my career in Security related path and I also read books, tried using few tools like sniffer, NMAP, etc. I am determined to do Masters then Doctorate which will certainly help with my future career. I want to gain solid back ground in Information and Communication Technologies.
During my schooling, first time I came across a computer when I was in 4
th standard while learning LOGO and Basic. I always wondered how computers were able to perform instructions to draw diagrams or play games simply taking statements and always thought of how these computers store so much information as compared to their compact size. This fascination changed into curiosity and then led to a deep interest in computers. My strengths are my quantitative and analytical ability. I was ranked in the top 3% students of my state in the common entrance exam for my state’s undergraduate schools (5870 out of more than 150 K attended). The focus of my undergraduate studies was electronics and computers. My undergraduate course has given me a comprehensive knowledge of several electronics relevant courses (Semiconductor Devices and Circuits, Electromagnetic Waves, Pulse and Digital Circuits, control systems, VLSI-VHDL, Signals and Systems, Micro-Controllers and Micro-Processors etc) and courses of computer sciences (Assembly Language, C, C++ DS, DBMS concepts, JAVA, Computer Organization, Computer Architecture, Operating Systems, and Data Communication). These courses, intensive in their subject matter, developed in me an appreciation for a diverse range of ideas and an amalgamation of varied but inter-related skills. After Bachelors Degree I worked as a Trainee Design Engineer in VLSI Technology and completed a project on USB Rx successfully. While I was working there, I decided that I would focus more on computers than on Electronics as I wanted be hard core Security professional. So I started with programming and was attracted to enterprise level software programming where legacy systems IBM Mainframe caught my interest. I received professional training on IBM Mainframe programming at Maintec Technologies Pvt Ltd (US based company head quartered Rayleigh, NC) on Real Time Mainframe system E3090 with Z/OS as operating system, which includes around 200 hours of programming experience on real time mainframes. After my training at Maintec I joined as a Software Engineer at HoneyPot IT Consulting Pvt Ltd where I worked for around 2.5 years on varied skill projects gaining knowledge and exposure to both IT and business management. As per my career plan, I quit and the company to join Mile2 Security program in 2007 which covered starting from basic networking concepts till CISSP but this did not satisfied my objective in gaining knowledge kept me looking out for academic programs which will actually give me more deeper insights of concepts. I found this program in 2006 through Google, as I was looking for scholarship for my education, missed 2 times to apply for this program and at last I have opportunity to present myself to the esteemed university. During last 1.5 years I am working as a Business Development Manager for a USA based IT company Techdemocracy LLC which helped fine tune my thinking towards situations involving decision making as my responsibilities were to generate business for the company through selling our services to get projects from prospective clients, support out client's staffing requirements and to lead a small team of recruiters. This company also got arm called Identserv which is in to IDM practice (Security platform) from where I learn few concepts on Identity Management and Security. Now I am eager to join program which will make me qualify for Doctorate degree where I wish to develop global advantage product in the security platform or join government organization to help secure its country.
I believe that the courses I have pursued for my bachelors degree, the professional training I had and the experience I gained have provided me with a strong base for a Masters in ICT. With this basic grounding I strongly believe that the Master program will further strengthen my knowledge, hone my skills and enable me to at the forefront of leading-edge technology and research going on in the field of Security. While working on the project which deals with large data and mission critical applications I noticed the importance of information in business process of an industry and its advancement. As an active member of few technology portals I have first hand information on Market and New technologies. I am also fluent in programming languages (both backend and front end) other than those of mainframes. I understand that an information specialist will have to think strategically, communicate clearly, and be adept at managing change and uncertainty in organizations. These are tough skills and a Master’s program that can impart these skills can really accelerate my career growth. I chose your program after researching scores of universities. I believe that its course work is what I need, in order to attain the skills I require.
I strongly believe that under the guidance of your highly competent research-oriented faculty, I would decisively mould my career for the better. An assistantship besides providing financial support would give me an invaluable research/teaching experience. I am aware that your university expects very high standards from its students. However, I am confidant that with my sincerity and dedication, I will be able to contribute to the research work at your university and live up to the high expectations of your academic standards. I am keen to join as a graduate student at your esteemed department with suitable financial assistance.
Thanking you for the opportunity to express myself.
