Motivation letter for acceptance to a master's degree
Hello to all, I've read some sample motivation letters and also the tips recommended by MountainHiker to write them. I'm finished writing it and would appreciate if someone could read it and tell me about it:
Dear Sir or Madam,
The purpose of this letter is to show my interest and provide further information to support my application to the International Master program in XXX, scheduled to start in the winter semester of 2012.
Curiosity of how things work has always driven my life, and by this I mean that it is one of the most important qualities that I have. The fact that it was the main reason for me to pursue a bachelor in engineering, more precisely in electronics engineering, is what makes it so important. I graduated in 2009 from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana (Pontifical Xavierian University) in Bogotá, Colombia, city where I live. By choosing this major I was not wrong, since I earned very good grades (Overall GPA of 3.97 out of a possible 5), ranked 12th among the 102 classmates I graduated with and more important, got to know how almost everything that we use on a daily basis involve electronics. After getting my degree and having acquired some work experience, I realized that this thirst for knowledge did not have to stop there, but instead could still be quenched, and by starting a master's degree in this engineering discipline for me is the best way to do it.
During my university years I started to like the field of automation and control, seeing it as one of the most important fields of study in electronics engineering. This can be demonstrated by my performance in the courses of dynamic systems, control theory, signal analysis, digital processing as well as both analogue and non-linear electronics. Also, by having a work experience of more than two years as a support engineer for digital printing machines, I could get close to this amazing field, because most of these machines involve control routines and sensors to make sure everything works fine. Additionally, I have always liked cars and how they work and when I have to take my car to the auto mechanic I try to get the best out of it by learning all I can from the problem the car has. I am also a fan of Motorsports, especially Formula One. Bearing all this in mind, I definitely knew I wanted to gain deeper knowledge in the area of automation and how it relates to the automotive world.
After I had decided I wanted to start a master’s degree in Germany (country well-known for being one of the pioneers in the automotive industry) focused on this area, my search for a suitable program led me to the one offered by your university. This program in Automotive Engineering is the perfect choice, since the trend of this industry is directed towards electronics, and in particular to the field of automation and control that I find very appealing, and my passion for cars. By reading what the program has to offer I concluded the following: it gives me the opportunity of improving my skills and gaining a comprehensive understanding in such areas, as well as getting to know the state of the art of most of the technologies involved; I can get in touch with big players in the industry, given the fact that several of them are located in Germany and in the region surrounding XXX, such as Audi or BMW; the international focus the program has gives me the chance to know people from other parts of the world and in that way learn their different points and experience in this field of engineering. Moreover, the accreditation seals and labels awarded to the program (i.e. ASIIN, AR, EUR-ACE) demonstrate its quality.
All of these are huge steps towards achieving my goal of becoming a successful professional in a research or development position in a company related to the automotive industry given the focus of the program. I consider that to do this I can apply all the background and tools the program can give me, such as learning to solve problems involving design, development and production of automobiles. This could be applied not only in Germany with its long history related to this industry, but also in Colombia, where there are production and assembly facilities for Renault and Chevrolet. Also, Colombia is becoming an emerging player in the world, with a lot of investment being made in different areas in the past few years and the automobile industry is one of those areas, so if I could help my country become a better place by doing what I like would be great.
I am positive that my academic background , the way I performed during my major and my passion for the subject will help me get to this goal too, as well as my desire to learn new things, and my commitment and responsibility whenever I face any problem. If accepted, I am sure I can add more diversity to the program and definitely will do my best to exceed your expectations.
Thank you for reviewing my application and I look forward to receiving your acceptance, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
