Motivation letter for a Masters program

This is my first draft of the letter of motivation that I need to write for the admission process in a Dutch University. I will be very grateful if someone can give me feedback on it. Thank you in advance!

Here it is:

It is known that (In my view, maybe?) our motivations, emotions, way of thinking and even our perception for the world are closely related to the functioning of our brain, with its many limitations and yet seemingly unlimited capacity for creativity, deep understanding and appreciation of beauty. Now more than ever, understanding ourselves and others is essential for the survival and the prosperity of humankind. This knowledge can help us discover how individual preferences construct the social, cultural, political, and economic processes in society, and we can use it make life better and more fulfilled for all of us.(I’m planning to rephrase this as why I think CnS is important) I am looking for a challenging master’s program that will give me the ability to help build up, elevate and spread this knowledge.

As an avid reader of scientific literature I have been always fascinated with thinking and human behaviour. I have coached many semi-professional poker players on different ways to improve their decision process and perform at their best even in stressful situations, under time pressure or with limited amount of information. Moreover, in my role as Taekwondo coach in the past I had the privilege to work with children and teenagers where my main objective was to create personalized development plans that will not only improve their physical performance but also their mental game and prepare them for competitions. Combined with my science education (Maybe I need to say a little more here. Any ideas?) this experience has given me ability to find flaws in people’s cognition based on their experience and reasoning, to form conclusions and find ways to test them in real life situations.

Living in The Netherlands for a year and a half I have developed a great appreciation for Dutch culture and the quality of the Dutch higher education. The XXX program at XXX University matches my diverse interests and provides a very good balance between research and theoretical courses. In addition to that some of the courses are held by scholars that have research interest close to mine, for example – Dr. XXX and her work on decision making and response inhibition, Prof. XXX and her studies in the area of bilingualism, Prof. XXXs language theory research. The opportunity to work with such researchers and the well-structured master’s program will give me a deeper understanding of the challenges in the field and will help me choose the focus of my work when I continue my studies into a Ph.D. program.

The XXX program at the XXX University corresponds to my plans for continuing my studies into a doctorate level and my motivation and drive will enable me to take the most of it. I believe that my background and skills will be of high value to the work in the program and for discussions in study groups. Thank you so much for your consideration and I look forward to your acceptance of my application
