Motivation letter for a master in neuroscience

Hello,

I wrote a motivation letter for my application to a master of neuroscience and I would like to have some corrections or comments about it. Thank you very much in advance !

To the attention of the Admission Panel,

Dear Madam, Sir,

Currently, I am a third-year student in the biology bachelor's program of Grenoble Alpes University, and I would like to enrol for the Bordeaux International Neuroscience Master (NeuroBIM).

Being part of this master would be a real satisfaction for me as it is, first of all, taught in English. By studying in your university I will significantly improve my English skills. Most of the scientifc information and articles are in English, that is why it is a great advantage to be able to understand it in order to work in scientific research. Understanding English is also important to build one's social network in a global level.

The second reason I’m drawn to NeuroBIM is because of it being completely concentrated on neuroscience. After searching several masters of neuroscience, this one was finally the master of my dream. The diversity of the courses proposed makes it unique and some courses really gained my interest as « Neuropharmacology », « Pathophysiology of neurological and psychiatric diseases » or « Pre-clinical and clinical neuropharmacology ». Indeed, these subjects are linked to my aimed professional carrier.

I am passionated by all the specialisations in neuroscience, however I have a special feeling for clinical research. Being able to understand the brain and its neurological, psychiatrical or neuropsychological diseases, in order to find forward solutions, is my aim. By understanding the brain, our life style will be improved and we will be able to make the most of our cerebral competences. Neuroscience is not only a domain in which I would like to work, it is a real passion for me and is an integral part of my life. In fact, I always try to keep in touch with neuroscience news by reading articles. Since I'm in middle school I read articles and watch documentaries about neurobiology, psychology, cognitive science and linguistic. The brain is an organ that really fascinates me and that I find beautiful by its complexity.

This passion and this fascination for neuroscience lead me to this academic career in the field of biology and to this application for NeuroBIM. Studying Neuroscience in Bordeaux represents a huge opportunity for me as this city is known for its excellence in this domain. Its history was indeed marked by researchers and clinicians that allowed the transmission of this neuroscientific culture to the present day.
Today, Bordeaux has a neurocampus, which is a new research center that shall gather most of the research teams from Aquitaine region in one place. This project will allow a more effective collaboration between the different actors working in neuroscience domain in order to develop new therapeutical strategies. An other positive aspect about Bordeaux's neurocampus is the presence of a series of neuroscience conferences proposed each year. This event really sparked my interest as this will allow me to be informed about the current scientific news in this field and also to meet professionals.

As you will see from my CV, I studied during two years biology in English as I was in the international programme. Therefore, the English langage will not be a barrier for me to understand the lectures. Also, for the last semester of my bachelor programme I have chosen to take a neurobiology teaching unit. This choice reinforces my envy of continuing down this path. During these three years, I have accumulated a wide knowledge in biology and also laboratory experiences through several hours of practical laboratory work. I also had a teaching unit in which we had to discover the real work of a project manager. Thus, I had to learn to resolve scientific issues by establishing a protocol, that will be followed in laboratory and then analysing the obtained results. I also learned to develop my autonomy, my thinking on the resolution of a scientific issue, my skills for results presentation and my ability to work in a team.

In addition to my academic background, I am going to do an internship this summer in the Institute of Neuroscience of Grenoble in the "Neuropathologies and Synaptic Dysfunctions" team directed by Alain Buisson.

With my strong academic background and desire to study, I am confident that I am qualified and able to perform well in this program.

To conclude, I am sure that NeuroBIM will satisfy my thirst for knowledge in neuroscience and joining your university will give me a solid foundation in this field. I hope I have been able to communicate my motivation for being part of NeuroBIM.

Thank you very much for considering my application. I look forward to your positive response.

Yours sincerely,

Hello Nimy,
I applied to NeuroBIM as well and I was wondering if you received any answer from them, be it for the reception of your application or pre-selection.
Thanks!
