Motivation letter for a Master Degree Application

Hi everybody,
Could you please help me on writing this letter? I'll be glad if you could correct my mistakes and suggest anything to include in the following letter. Thank you very much

To whom it may concern,

I'm writing this letter to show my desire to apply for the master program at the - University for the 2009 - 2010 study year about - Studies. In the following letter I would like to present my reasons for choosing this program and to provide a general background about me.

First of all I would like to introduce myself. My name is - and I come from the Republic of San Marino. As you know San Marino is one of the smallest independent states in the world and it has a weak international influence. However, in the last two decades San Marino had seen a relevant international growth, becoming a member of the most important International Institutions such as the United Nations and the Council of Europe. In spite of this, it had always suffered from lack of experience especially in international competitive environments. It is for these reasons that I have always dreamt of giving an important contribution to improve the international status of my country of origin.

In the last years I have lived and studied in Forlì until I graduated from the Roberto Ruffilli Faculty of the University of Bologna. Since the beginning of my studies I found a particular attraction for the International Relations Theories, reaching the highest grade in the relative course. After my graduation I had also the great opportunity to practise my acquired abilities through a traineeship experience at the Permanent Mission of San Marino to the United Nations (New York). This experience contributed to strengthen my passion for International Relations, Human Rights and International Organizations as well as clarifying my future objectives.

During my bachelor studies I have also given special attention to the developing of ICT and New Media, particularly Internet. I actively participated in many international blogs, discussing several topics. This concern led me to the research of my final dissertation. I have indeed analyzed an international-relevant E-Democracy project, born in Bologna in 2005. The importance of this project was also confirmed by a top-ranking presence at the final of the United Nations Public Administration Award (UNPSA). My analysis has particularly focused on the spread of the participation of youth at national and local politics and it has been published on the website of the Legislative Assembly of the Italian “Emilia-Romagna” Region.

The main reason why I am applying this program is that I want to improve myself in theoretically about International Relations focusing. After finishing successfully this program I would like to accomplish a diplomatic career on behalf of the Republic of San Marino, paying special attention to the International Institutions, especially the United Nations. For this prospect living and studying in - will give me high opportunities. I find that a vast knowledge of International Relations is a basic and essential condition to succeed in a diplomatic career. Moreover, the variety of courses and students make your School the perfect place to grow not only culturally but also personally and it would assure me an ulterior improvement in general culture, communication and public relations.

Finally, I think - is an excellent place to start my career. The program seems the perfect opportunity for me to achieve the necessary knowledge for working in a competitive international environment.

Kindly contact me if you require any further details or documents. I hope to hear from you in the near future.
