Motivation letter for a business school application

Hi guys,

I am Applying for a Master of Science and they ask me for a motivation letter and they have also given to me the parts of the letter:

1 speak about yourself, your hobbies and intersts

2 write the reason of the choise of this particular Msc

3 speak about your suitability for such Msc

I hope to help someone but before I hope that someone can help me checking it.....thanks

I am born in a village in central Italy, I attended the high school in a near by town then I moved, without any fears but full of enthusiasm, to Milan to start at the University, then last September I went to England to have my first international work experiences and to improve my English to be able to apply for your course. Every time I moved, I did it knowing what I was doing and planning every step of my route as I am used to doing when organizing my own life. Of course I found some unforeseen issues along my way, but by such obstacles I have highlighted my ability to solve problems by myself or use the net of relations that I had built up, always without losing my self-control. The desire to know and compare myself with different people from different parts of Italy and of the world, the desire to learn new knowledge and moreover to have new experiences have been and are like a boost to my decision. Thanks to my sociable nature I have never had any kind of problem familiarizing myself with new people and also building lasting friendships and relationships despite my continual movement.

During my summer work I have learned the value of money and I have started to learn how to relate to the customers, the colleagues and the managers. As a teenager I swam at competition level and this showed me the importance of sacrifice and also the connection between training and results. I developed this passion taking the sub licence and also the Lifeguard licence, the first to use more completely the water environment the second also to work as a substitute in my town swimming pool. I also used to be a scout and in this period I learned to manage a small team.

I have always been interested in cars, and I like to read newspapers and watch documentaries about technical arguments (vehicles, building…) and historical characters.

I have chosen the Mbasc Supply Chain Management because I think it can give me an innovative point of view in how to see and manage the value chain of a company and its relationship with others to achieve a competitive advantage. I have chosen your University for the quality of its teaching, international relationsh ips and because I think that there is not a better environment than Rotterdam to study this subject. I believe that your philosophy will be the key factor enabling me to reach success in the present and in the future market, so I want to be ready for it and take advantages of my knowledge. I agree with your way of looking at a company as a ring of a chain where the other rings are suppliers and customers in order to be able to reach the maximum profit for the whole chain and not for every single ring because the value produced by the whole is more than the sum of every single value produced.

My interest in logistic and supply chain management started during a course in Operation Management. During it I started to realize the importance of this aspect of management and I have also realized that my personal characteristics match the skills required in this area of work. As I am very interested in this subject I have been reading academic books to increase mine knowledge of the subject and to be ready to attend your Master. Please contact me if you require further information.

Your faithfully,

Claudio Antonelli

Hi, I think you have too much on question 1 - summarise the parts that make you sound like a good prospective student and logistics person! Also, your only answer to question 3 is the phrase 'my personal characteristics match the skills required in this area of work', which is a bit light really. What exactly are your personal characteristics that match the skills required?
