Motivation letter - Erasmus (for the hundredth time...)

Hello,

I have already found here plenty of inspiration how to write my motivation letter for Erasmus. Thanks for it!

Would anyone be so kind and take a brief look at my motivation letter? I would really appreciate any advice to improve its content or correct grammar.
Will be my pleasure if it becomes useful for anyone else :-)

Thanks in advance!

Dear Sir or Madam,

I am writing to apply for the Erasmus student exchange programme. I would like to spend the entire next academic year at Universidade do Algarve, Portugal. I am currently in my second year of undergraduate studies in Economics and Management at the XYZ University.

There are several reasons why I have decided to apply for the Erasmus programme. First of all, it would definitely be a very efficient and spontaneous way to improve my English. I have been learning this language for eleven years, but I must admit that I mostly come in touch with English only as a “passive recipient” and I speak it only rarely. That is what I would like to change and taking part in Erasmus represents a golden opportunity. Moreover, I also could enrich my knowledge studying those economic subjects, which are not taught at the XYZ Uni.

What I find to be the most attractive benefit of this programme is getting to know other Erasmus students from the whole Europe. Where else could I meet so varied group of young people, spend with them such a long time and get to know their habits, attitudes, lifestyle etc.? I think living, studying, travelling and having fun within an international group of students would broaden my horizons and enable me to build friendships with young people within the whole Europe.

Last but not least I would have a chance to compare the Portuguese system of higher education to the Czech one. Not only the difficulty of study or demands on students, but also for example the approach of lectors, which would surely be an useful experience even for my further studies at the XYZ Uni.

The reasons of my choice of Universidade do Algarve are in brief these: I would like to learn another foreign language. Besides English I have also been learning German, which both are Germanic languages, so I decided to choose a Romance-language-speaking country. Portugal seems to me being kind of overlooked among these countries, which makes me want to get to know it. Universidade do Algarve situated in Faro is as well as XYZ Uni a modern university and its Faculty of Economic offers a wide range of courses. Moreover, I think I could get there into a closer touch with the local inhabitants than in the vast anonymous metropolis of Lisbon. And obviously it is also attractive thanks to its Mediterranean climate and the location by the ocean.

I am confident that my experience from Erasmus would be extremely exciting, and valuable for both my professional and overall personal development.

Thank you for considering my request.

Yours faithfully,

name surname
