Dear Sir or Madam,

I am applying for Master's Programme in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry in your institution. I am a fast learner and a team worker with good adaptive ability and analytical skills to solve problems and make new discoveries.

I studied at W University (Nigeria) where I majored in Industrial Chemistry and graduated as the best student of the department with a CGPA of 4.61 out of 5.00. I have been a very bright student even right from primary school, I topped my class many times and I never ranked below the top five students of any class.

Chemistry is, no doubt, involved in every of our daily activities. I can say that, the simple household reactions fascinated me to study Chemistry. Since childhood I used to have so many questions about all the happenings around me. For instance, I remember asking my mum one faithful morning why we have to allow water to boil before we could make custard, mum simply replied that that’s how custard is prepared which kept me wondering still. But when the concept of Chemistry was introduced to me and I found it quite explanatory. The knowledge that it requires a specific temperature for gelatilization of starch to occur explained what mum couldn’t make me understand. This made me develop a special interest in Chemistry.

I find it fascinating that Chemistry finds application in all spheres of live - from carrying out laboratory experiment to several other aspects like purification of water, proper waste disposal (industrial and home waste) techniques, analyzing forensic evidence in a crime scene, diagnosing illness or disease to synthesizing drugs for treatment. Though, I find every aspect of chemistry quite interesting and eye opening to the world we live in, my personal believe is that living a long, healthy and happy life is one of the greatest thing that can happen to any man in this world and that saving, protecting and enhancing longevity of human lives are few of the greater good I can accomplish and offer my society. Therefore, my love for Chemistry and lifesaving is my drive to the choice of Organic and Medicinal Chemistry at Master’s Level of my academic pursuit.

I aspire to acquire an in-depth knowledge on the design, chemical synthesis and development of pharmaceutical agents and also study the mechanism, characterization, application, interaction and principles of reactions of organic molecules. I am convinced that University of X is the right place for me to achieve my dream since The University of X is a top class institution in **e*** and in the world. This is made evident by the ranking of University of X. Also, information on The University of X's website on my desired programme (Master’s Programme in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry) is a guarantee that obtaining a Master’s Degree at the University of X will be a pedestal to my high rise in the field of Medicinal and Organic Chemistry.

I wish to bring to your knowledge that I have industrial experience coupled with my academic laboratory experience. I worked at The Ministry of Water Resources, *****, Nigeria where I was involved in the five stages of industrial water purification process (The aeration stage; the coagulation and flocculation stage; the sedimentation stage; the filtration stage; and the disinfection stage) and in collection, preparation, preservation and analysis of the water samples. In addition, I worked at the Department of Industrial Chemistry, University of K as a graduate assistant. This is in fulfillment of my one-year mandatory national service to my fatherland known as National Youth Service Corps in Nigeria which ended in September 2016. So, I possess refined tutoring, research and interpersonal skills in addition to my enthusiasm for learning and academic preparation. I will exploit these abilities to ensure that I make the most of the Master’s Programme in Organic and Medicinal Chemistry.

Being an excellent observer, open – minded, task oriented, inquisitive, initiative, patient, persistent, detail – oriented, critical thinking, problem solving person that I am, coupled with my fast learning, team working, and good adaptive abilities, I believe I will acquire great knowledge from The University of X when admitted and become a renowned Organic and Medicinal Chemist for my work and research and make The University proud.
