MOTIVATION LETTER

Hi guys,

I am pursuing my first year MSc in Biotechnology at University of Rome Tor Vergata. I will be doing my second year in Heidelberg university through Erasmus bilateral agreement between my university and Heidelberg. I will need to get a research place at one of the research labs at Heidelberg university in order to do my Masters thesis. So I need a motivation letter along with my curriculum vitae to approach various research labs in that university.

You can find a copy of my first draft below. One important thing is that i wanted to say about my skills and experience in one single page. So I went through this letter so many times to find out if it misses anything. but I couldn't find anything more. I might be wrong. So please go through it and tell me your valuable suggestions and advice. Thanks much for your time. It means a lot Emotion: smile

XXXX
1st Year MSc- Biotechnology

Prof.XXXX
BZH, University of Heidelberg

Dear Professor,
Sub: Master’s thesis work- Reg
I have been admitted as an Erasmus student at the University of Heidelberg in the Faculty of Biosciences for the full academic year 2016-17. As a part of my curriculum, I need to work in a research lab for 6-9 months (yielding publication quality research) and writing a dissertation on its results. I am writing to inquire if you could offer me an opportunity to work in BZH on a thesis topic linked to one of the research projects. I believe that I possess the skills, qualifications and experience necessary to work successfully in any line of research at BZH.

As you will see from my enclosed CV, I have a strong academic background in Biotechnology, achieved a First Class Bachelor of Technology degree from XXX. Furthermore, I had a great opportunity to do my B.Tech dissertation and work as a Graduate Researcher at University of Leeds, one of the prestigious universities in the UK. My research entitled “Expression of Human Membrane Proteins in Kluyveromyces lactis” developed my laboratory skills in, and not limiting to; Nucleic acid Extraction, Molecular Cloning, PCR, SDS PAGE and Affinity Chromatography.

I have had the opportunity to work on exciting research projects which I believe has improved my research, record taking and documentation skills and my ability to work well both in team based and autonomous roles. To highlight this, I worked as a part of a team at XXX to determine the level of trivalent and hexavalent Chromium present on various occupationally exposed workers. Also, I worked independently on a research “Extraction and Quantification of Azadirachtin from Neem Kernel Seeds” in XXX Institute. These research projects have developed my laboratory skills in Calorimetry, UV/ Vis Spectrometry, HPLC & TLC.

My long term goal is to become an expert researcher in Biotechnology and I am certain that my valuable mix of laboratory experience combined with my strong academic background will ensure that I add considerable value to BZH.

Should you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thanks much for your time and consideration. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely
XXXX
