Misael X Adress Mobile: ---- E-mail: …. September 20th, 2015 University X To whom it may concern, First and foremost I would like to introduce myself, my name is Misael X, student of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Y. The main purpose of this letter is to expose the reasons why I want to take part in the exchange program of X. In the first place, I have to say that I consider this university as one of the best on Social Sciences in the world. I have two reason to apply to the exchange program of X. At first place I want to spend one semester because I consider that studying at X could bring me several tools for my professional development, and secondly I think that I, as a student of a public university, have a duty with the society and in main to accomplish that, I want to study in the Mexican Government as policy designer, and I think that my best utensil to do a great job for the inhabitants of Mexico is having the best education. Although I would better like to start by explaining why I decided to study Economics. It all started because of my father; he is member of a small cooperative enterprise whom give service of transportation from Puebla City to several little towns in the sierra Mixteca Mexicana, an underprivileged zone of the State of Puebla; so, when I was a teenager I worked at that enterprise as route inspector and I had the possibility of being in touch with the bus drivers and the inhabitants of the towns, and that is when I realized how big is the contrast between urban and rural areas in Mexico, but not only that, I also became conscious of the income gap amid the high wage people and the low wage people, and the existence of this immense gap in the revenue levels made me decide to study Economy to help to reduce that difference. And that is where my first reason comes from, I want to study one semester abroad in X because of the courses it has. I think that I have the possibility of follow the rhythm of them, in order to obtain a wider vision of what is this income disparity and the tools what can be used to fight against it. Also I think that taking part of this program will make me take better decisions in order to achieve a fair distribution of the income in my country. I am convinced that a fair distribution of the national revenue is closely linked with better wages and bigger rates of growth. That is why I want to study at X, to learn more efficient mechanisms to design or execute public policies with a higher level of effectiveness. The second motive because I want to do this exchange, it is connected to my first reason in an essential manner, but before I start to explain it, I want to put you in context. At my fourth and fifth semester, I took a class of Macroeconomic Theory, and after that I learn to read the macroeconomic indicators of Mexico, and, I could see that Mexico is a healthy country if you only look at those indicators, but If you take a look on his development index´s, you can observe that exists a giant inequality between his inhabitants. After those courses, my last semester I took a lecture of Mexican Economy in which we analyzed the public policies taken by the past administrations, and I discern that those policies did not cause a big effect over the inequality, and that is the root of my second target of studying at Xo; it is well known that this institution is the best university in France on Social Sciences, so I want to go spend one semester to learn a little bit more about Public Policies, then I can return to Mexico and have the opportunity to put in practice that knowledge, because I would like to became a policy designer. In addition, I also want to take part of the exchange program because I really want to know the French culture, I want to know your society, because it is old and wisdom, also France is the cradle of freedom ideas, and I want to know more about the freedom spirit whom surround the French people. Moreover, I was reading about the Social Cares Programs in France, and I compare it with the Mexican Programs, and I discover several holes in ours. Thank you for considering my request. I look forward to your positive response. Sincerely,
Misael X.
