Letter Writing

Motivation letter

Hello everyone,

I am in the process of writing a motivation letter to apply for a master in finance at the cChinese university of Hong Kong. I find it very hard to write a convincing letter and I was wondering if any of you has some hints I can use. I have written a draft at this point, which I find a little bit short. Maybe you could tell me what is missing? Thank you in advance!

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Stef, I am a 22 years old Dutch student and I am writing to apply to your Master program in Finance.
With the prospect of graduating my bachelor studies cum laude with a major in Business economics in April 2015, I am now interested in pursuing my goals to become an employee in the finance department of an international company. Already since I finished middle school I have known this to be my ambition.

With two years of work experience as a commercial employee in the finance company Alfam Consumer Credit LLC holding, subsidiary of the Dutch nationalized ABN Amro bank, I have learned to study and work hard to achieve my ambitions. Now, as the end of my bachelor draws near, I feel the urge to renew my aspiration by extending my boundaries even further. As will become clear in this letter, I have always had a lot of passion for international environments. Having lived in Rome, Italy and Nice, France, I differentiate myself from others in terms of international experience.

The program you provide interests me enormously. Business economics, finance and courses like financial econometrics and investment and portfolio analysis play a prominent role in my career goals. The role these courses play in daily operations of businesses is of major importance nowadays, and I feel that your program can prepare me for that. They challenge me with their complexity and drive address opportunities in the financial industry.

Should I attend your school, I wish to continue my studies in business economics, with specialization of finance.
To my knowledge, your program is very competitive, attracting highly motivated students from all over the world, such as me. I am convinced, however, that my academic record and work experience makes me a strong candidate. I would be honored if you would consider accepting me as a MSc of Finance student at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Your sincerely,
