Motivation Letter

Hallo, I am about to writhe my motivation letter for an PhD position in university.
Could somebody please give me some feedback on that ? I am not an English native speaker :-)
Many thanks in advance

Motivation Letter:

I am writing to inquire about opportunities for a PhD position at your research group in Analytical Chemistry of the University xxxx.
I am a successful graduate food chemist (diploma and 2. state examination) from the Technical University of xxxxx (Germany).
Already during the practical work of my thesis I worked on the development and validation of HPLC-ESI-MS/MS method for the determination of acrylamide in rat ***, and also developed and optimized a work-up procedure of solid phase extraction (SPE).

My enthusiasm for analytical chemistry has increased during my training in food chemistry in Laboratory of the Federal State of Hesse (LHL) Kassel (germany) after completing my diploma. During my practical work in LHL, I have gained valuable experience in the methods of instrumental analysis (HPLC-MS, GC-MS), in molecular biology (Real-Time-PCR, SDS-PAGE, DNA-Sequencing), as well as in immunoassay ELISA.

At the moment I work as a project manager in the Department of Consumer Safety at xxxxx GmbH. In addition to customer service and project management, I am involved in the approval of the active substances used in plant protection products at EU level for leading and small chemical companies. Here, I am particularly concerned with the issue of pesticide residues on plants and animals and with the preparation and review of reports on residue analytical methods.

Therefore many overlappings between my scientific abilities and your research area arise, on which I can co-operate passionately and highly motivated. On the website of your research group, I have seen some very interesting projects in the area of mass spectrometry-based proteomics. Explicitly the work in interdisciplinary research covering areas in analytical and bioanalytical chemistry inspires me for a long time, since I particularly enjoy the precise analytical thinking and also the different analytic-technical problem-solving strategies. I find especially the questions in the area of biomarker screening and identification of specific proteins by mass spectrometry for disease research extremely interesting and very promising.

After gaining enough work experiences, I decided to take the next step in my academic and scientific career and to start a challenging and interesting PhD position in an international environment.
I have chosen the University of xxxxx for my PhD because of the well structured training for doctoral students with the possibility of the participation in seminars and lectures. Moreover, I am impressed by the high level of research and by the excellent reputation of the University of xxxxx.
Beside my academic qualification, I am convinced that due to my personal skills and abilities, I bring the necessary attributes to complete my PhD successfully in your workgroup. These include in particular, perseverance, diligence, resilience and the ambition to finish what I have started.
If you are interested to hear more about me, then I would be more than happy to introduce myself to you in person. In an interview I can tell you more about my abilities and the reasons why I want to join your research group.

Yours Sincerely
