Hello guys, I am applying to a master degree program in Biomedical Engineering. I wonder if you could help me and read my statement of purpose. Thank you in advance.
Dear Sir or Madam, I am Soulaimane Berkane, an engineer student at the National Polytechnic School of Algiers (Ecole Nationale Polytechnique d’Alger- ENP). I have completed five years of courses in the field of control and automation engineering. My ultimate career goal is to be an accomplished researcher in Control theory and its application in Medicine. With that aim in view, I would like to pursue the Biomedical Engineering Master program at RWTH Aachen University. I outlined my academic and research accomplishments, career objectives and motivation below.
Studying in Germany will certainly have a long-lasting impact on my life for the following reasons. First, I am confident that the academic strength of the German universities will help me to get involved in the most advanced and novel projects and to become a highly competitive researcher. Besides their lower tuition fees German universities have an outstanding reputation throughout the world for their industry-oriented courses which, I strongly believe, will help my research projects to be in service for human, society and industry needs. Furthermore, I tend to be self-reliant in organizing my studies and career objectives. Thus, the German system gives me the opportunity to follow my own path into the world of research.
I have chosen to complete my research career at RWTH Aachen University, one of the most renowned technical universities in Europe, for its top-level study and very high standard of education and research. In addition, one of the main advantages of choosing RWTH Aachen University is the interdisciplinary research programs offered such as the Biomedical Engineering program where I can develop my projects in collaboration with external partners such as clinics, hospitals and international companies.
My main motivation for applying to the Biomedical Engineering Master program is to develop advanced biomedical applications of control theory, automation and robotics. For example, I would like to work on projects dealing with early diagnosis of complex diseases such as cardiovascular diagnosis. Currently I am working on a project in collaboration with KAUST University in Saoudi Arabia dealing with Detection of Cardiovascular Abnormalities (Modeling, Identification and Diagnosis) using methods and techniques from control theory and hybrid systems. Designing medical devices such as artificial organs inspired me a long time ago; hence I would like to contribute to the advancement of this field. In summary, I will enjoy providing solutions to the world’s most critical and challenging problems related to the Biomedical Engineering field. This experience will bolster my career and knowledge in engineering by adding new skills in natural sciences and medicine. These are the reasons why completing a Master and a Ph.D. degree at RWTH Aachen University constitutes a great opportunity for me to achieve perfectly my objectives.
I deeply believe in playing a role in the process of establishing better living conditions for humankind therefore I would like to apply my engineering techniques and methods in the medical field. My long term goal is to do research in academia or private industry. I would also like to contribute my share of knowledge to the economic and technological advancement of my country. In the first instance, when I become a mature researcher in Biomedical Engineering I will help the Algerian government to implement such new technologies in the medical and health industry.
I have strong incentive to advance the farthest in this field and to discover new things. In my opinion it is of key importance to have possibilities to obtain an excellent education and to conduct certain research projects that is why I consider application to Biomedical Engineering program at RWTH Aachen University as the next professional stepping stone in my career and I would regard my admission not only as a great honor but also as a great responsibility and an obligation to consistently work hard.
Eventually, I am confident that I will become a serious and mature researcher and my desire to make a contribution to science and to our understanding of this world will remain my main driving force. I deeply believe that the excellence of your program, along with my capabilities and motivation, will help me attain my destination.
Yours faithfully,
