Motivation letter

Hello! I am going to apply for exchange student to Leiden.

Here is my motivation letter. I am wondering that is there any suggestion for me to improve this content? Since that I am not very good at writing this kind of letter.

Dear Sir or Madam

First, I would like to express my appreciation for this opportunity to apply for the international exchange student program to Leiden University. I am a senior student in National Taiwan Normal University and major in English. Also, I am taking the educational program courses.

With the background knowledge of English and education, I think that to participate in this exchange student program is a good way to improve my ability of language, and gain different life experience. First of all, to be an exchange student in Netherland, where most of people can speak in English, I can make use of what I’ve learn about this language. What’s more, I am also strongly curious about the educating condition in Netherland. The different ways of education with Taiwan can help me to have much more room to design my teaching method in the future.

In addition, I have taken the courses of European literature and the introduction of literature theory. These two courses invoke my interest toward literature and European culture. Especially that, last summer vacation, I have been worked as a guide of foreign performance group in an international festival. During that time, I have received a lot of opportunities to know more about the European culture. Therefore, I strongly feel that to be an exchange student in Leiden will have more chances to learn European culture.

Instead of learning more about European culture, to study in Leiden, I can also have many opportunities to interact with people from diverse professionals and cultural backgrounds draw from all over the world. The exposure is important for interaction and integration of diverse ideas and perspectives pertaining to various global issues.

For my future plan, on the one hand, I want to study further about European culture. On the other hand, I will prepare to be a high school English teacher. I think that being a teacher who has an open view toward different cultures will also bring his or her student a different viewpoint about our world. What’s more, the European culture is the beginning of English culture. As a language teacher, to understand their culture is a crucial point, too.

Finally I will optimize my stay at Leiden University to garner a wealth of ideas that will help me when I return to my country. I wish myself to be a teacher with a broad view of world and still keep study European culture.
