Motivation letter

hi gyes, please be kind enough to correct this.
this is my motivation letter.

Dear Sir,

First, I would like to express my appreciation for this opportunity to apply for Erasmus Mundus scholarship. I am a graduate of University of Kelaniya in Sri Lanka, holding a degree in Bachelor of Science in physics and have an Edexcel (UK) –BTEC Higher National Diploma in Telecommunication. During the course of my graduate study, the phenomena of light-matter interaction first caught my attention and have developed a keen interest in photonics and wish to pursue an MSc in that field. I studied with limited resources and have not been able to proceed with further studies here in Sri Lanka or elsewhere as I lack the necessary funds. I would be grateful to be provided with sponsorship to further my education and build a career and Erasmus Mundus scholarship will be immensely helpful.

After three years studied at my university, I have acquired a solid foundation of knowledge in physics. Especially in-depth and integrating knowledge about the Electronics, Electromagnetism, physical and geometrical optics, quantum mechanics, solid state physics, telecommunication and their laboratory works brought me a deeper understanding the importance of the Physics to the human life. With this background knowledge of physics, I strongly feel that a Master course in photonics will be extremely suitable with my ability, my interest as well as my Bachelor programme in Sri Lanka. In addition, during the two years of HND, I could gain plenty of Technical knowledge including the field of optical fiber communication, Modern Switching and Transmission systems, data and broadband communication, Radio engineering, Mobile and Wireless communication and Project Management. With this solid foundation in academic background, I believe that will help me to find solutions for any kind of new professional challenges.

The MSc programme I desire to join is very meaningful to me. Having a chance to study in Europe means I will have opportunities to approach and experience one of the best educational systems in the world. It will offer me new aspects of photonics research especially in telecommunication and data communication area and their designs and development. In my country, such designs and development are quite new and this MSc programme will bring me a great chance to come within reach of them. Besides, I will contribute myself to the further research in this area and wish to pursue postgraduate research degree leading to M.Phil or PhD. Hopefully, when coming back to Sri Lanka, The local universities, research organisations or the telecom industries will be a good channel where I can transfer the knowledge gained in an optimized manner to my country and future generations. In addition I will get a chance through Erasmus Mundus scholarship to interact with students from diverse professional and cultural backgrounds drawn from all over the world. The exposure is important for interaction and integration of diverse ideas and perspectives pertaining to various global issues for the world is a mosaic of different cultures and a single perspective cannot apply in all these cultures.

Finally, I strongly desire that after finishing the MSc program in Europe, by the knowledge and experience gained, I will be able to fulfill my dream - directing Sri Lankan people to sustainably utilize the resources in order to boost up our economy as well as our environmental quality. Honestly, guiding people to have a sustainable and friendly lifestyle to environment is my greatest ambition. Apart from educational opportunities, I will also experience people and culture of the Europe, beautiful countries I love so much. To sum up, winning the Erasmus Mundus scholarship will enable me to enhance and broaden my knowledge, not only in my profession but also in other fields.

Once again I am grateful for considering my application and I look forward to a favourable reply.

Yours faithfully,

Dinuka
