00 I want to start to make a short introduction on who I am and on my education. I am graduating this year from the University of Uludag and from the faculty of Theology. Now I’m studying in K.U. Leuven on Christian theology as an Erasmus exchange student. This is a kind of advantage that helps me to make comparisons and to understand the relations or correlations between religion and society, peoples’ understandings. 02 br
00 Before I concentrate on the factors encouraged me to apply for this programme, first of all I want to deal with the question why I would like to choose this country and university shortly. Belgium as is called worthily “the heart of Europe” has a significant importance for Europe, for the world through the world wide organizations. When the question of why K.U. Leuven, I would say that its history and its richness regarding different students have influenced me firstly. During my education I had a chance to meet different peoples from all around the world and for the first time I’ve experienced the differences closely in the world. These meetings have directed me to think of the problems of the integration of differences. But, I cannot ignore the personal reasons that forced me to think such as different manners about eating, making joke, spending time, even using the shared places! 02 br
00 Finally, I want to summarize the personal reasons heartened me to be interested in the subjects you’re offering within the programme. The problem of integrating different peoples, cultures, religions is a hard job because of the distinctions and illusions between the peoples. This process is often obstructed by the peoples that can be called a kind of “Don Quixote.” Although they are not aware what they do. The reason of that is, these peoples confuse differences (windmills) with threats (oppressive giants) and try to fight against them in Europe (in Dulcinea). Since I come here and come across the urgency of problem, I’ve started to think of the question about how can be helped these peoples, what is the best way to adapt people without assimilating and how can people live together with the mutuality of understanding. 02 br
00 The problem is growing and widened in my mind while I am writing these lines. But I am well aware that some people must try to solve them. At the same time I am thinking of that question. Might I be a kind of “Don Quixote” who creates the problems in her mind and deals with them, or are they really there? I am hoping to find out the answer by means of your master programme. 02 br
