Mother's maiden name?

Hi, could someone please tell me what this mean? Is it asking for my mom's last name before she got married? Thanks

Yes, that's exactly what it means. It's used as a security question - not many people are likely to know that (unless they know you really well) so it helps financial organizations confirm that you really are you.

That's all right, Coach!

(As a matter of fact, I'm always mildly surprised when someone tells me they've taken their husband's name. Unless their maiden name is very peculiar, of course.)
