Most writing/Spoken words of Longman

Hi everybody,

I have the Longman Dictionary (latest version).

On the right of words, it's sometimes marked W1, W2, W3 or S1, S2, S3.

W1/2/3 for the 1000/2000/3000 most writng words

S1/2/3 for the 1000/2000/3000 most spoken words.

Please, where can I find these lists?

Thank you very much

I don't think that there is a list of those words in the appendix. However, thesr are some sites that provide you with these lists. Just you have to search for them.

Here is what you are looking for, though none of these frequency lists provide you with phonetics or pronounciation, yet they are not diddicult to be looked for by yourself, the lists are based on the British National Corpus (authors Geoffrey Leech, Paul Rayson, Andrew Wilson; 2001:

You had better buy Longman dictionary software and when you click on "w1" , it opens all of 3000 Written words with pronunciation and you can click the word and it carries you to the entry.
That's a benevolent software which contains Longman language activator , collocation, more an more examples from corpus and other dictionaries, the list of academic words, etc.

search for longman_3000_list.pdf

some words do not have either an Sn or a Wn tag so the implication is that longman may have elected to ignore a number of words from the overall top 3000 to include more useful words from spoken or written top 3000

Load the list into ms excel and sort the word list yourself
