Most or a great many?

Hi

Many of / A great many exhibitions are like huge market places for the sale of goods, and these are often called trade fairs.

Which one is suitable for this sentence? I think both are fine but I'm not sure.

You cannot use 'many of' there, but these are OK: Many / A great many exhibitions are like huge market places for the sale of goods. 'A great many' is of course more (in concept) than 'many'.
