Most of them spent about 2 months

Hello, falks,

Most of them spent about 2 months for the preparation for the course development (60%), and subsequently 3 months (20%).

I think the underlined part means the second largest group.

How should we modify the underline properly in the sentence?

Thanks.

I would rewrite your sentence thus: Most of them spent about 2 months in preparation for the course (60%) while only 20% spent 3 months. This sentence is not ideal, but I would need to have more context to provide a better solution.
