Most common words in English

Question

Hello! I study to become an English teacher and I think it would be great to have a list of the most common say 15,000 words in the English language. Then I could test my students on maybe those ranked from 10,000 to 11,000 or something like that. That would be great!

You can find a number of sites listing the most commonly used English words by searching Google:

Here is one of the sites I found after doing a Google search:
http://www.duboislc.org/EducationWatch/First100Words.html

That site breaks its list into manageable chunks of 100 -- i.e. the first hundred, the second hundred, and so on.
