"Most" as a pronoun. Does quantity matter?

"Most of the apples are ripe."

Is this sentence grammatically incorrect if there are only 2 apples, both of which are ripe? Does "most" need to refer to a group of 3 or more items to be grammatically correct when used as an indefinite pronoun?

Also, when referring to small items that come in bunches-grapes, bananas, vine tomatoes- you might be referring to a whole box of fruit and saying "Most of the...are ripe."
Even more restricting would be an even number of apples...
Good luck.
