00I like 01u00'sent in the essay to a contest02u00,' but I still don't know why 01u00handed in the essay to a contest'02u00 doesn't work. Does the latter refer to directly and personally give to, i.e., 01u00hand in our homework to our teacher02u00?0-

0Yes, when you hand something in, the person you give it to is present. When you sumit something, or send it in, you can do it in through the mail, through an e-mail, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean you had a physical piece of paper that you put in someone's hand, or a basket on her desk, etc.0-
