mornings/ evenings

1. Cats in the wild are most active in the early morning and evenings, when they do most of their hunting.

2. I play soccer on weekends/Saturdays.

On weekends and Saturdays mean every weekend and Saturday, right?
Then why #1 doesn't say mornings and say "evenings?"
