morning line-up?

Hi,
What do you call it when school children line up in the morning before they enter their classrooms? Is there a name for the activities that usually take place at that time; during the "lining-up"?
Thank you.

I don't think we have it in the Western world (but I can't speak for every country). However, try looking up "roll call".

When I was in school in England, we called it '(morning) assembly'.
The whole school got together briefly for announcements, etc.

Thank you very much, Clive. So, in the States, do you go to your classrooms directly without having to stop and line up in the morning?

Children go directly to their classrooms. The morning announcements are made over the public address system or even over the TV screens in the classrooms.
