More...than not

Hello, teachers. Please help me to clarify this sentence.

The anxiety and worry are associated with three (or more) of the following six symptoms (with at least some symptoms present for more days than not for the past 6 months).

As I understand it, they mean some symptoms that present for at least 6 months. But what I don't understand is the comparison here:

for more days than...what?, why is "not" used here?

Sorry if I can't ask a clearer question.

Thank you for your answer.

Think of it this way. The anxiety and worry are associated with three (or more) of the following six symptoms (with at least some symptoms present for more days than they were not present for the past 6 months). eg maybe symptoms were present for 100 days in the last 6 months, and not present for 83 days.
