Vocabulary

more = rather?

Hello!

Could you help me, please?

Are those sentences correct and can we use the words "more" and "rather" equally in them:

She is more nice than wise = She is nice rather than wise.
He is more good than bad = He is good rather than bad.

Thank you!

Here the "rather than" is really suitable. By the way, not more good but better good- better- (the)best. Opss.

  • What am I doing?
  • He is good rather than bad (You shouldn't change the adjective) I haven't come across the comparative usage with the "rather than" before.

If we use this construction, 'better' is incorrect. We are not using comparatives of the adjectives, but saying something like, "He can more satisfactorily be described as good than as bad".
