More likely

A new study found girls were significantly more likely than boys to return to play the same day.

I don't understand the meaning of "more likely" please explain and why they didn't use "perhaps" or any other word to similar like that?

Top answer

'Perhaps' would not be appropriate here. The writer is talking about how likely/probable it is that young people will return to play. It is more likely/probable that girls will return than that boys will.
