That's a tough one. It sounds to me like person 1 criticized person 2 and person 2 criticized him back.

Person 1 said, "You should learn to keep your mouth shut until you've been accepted by the gang."

Person 2 said, "But I thought you were a really great person and I could talk to you man to man. Why do you have to disappoint me like this?"
