'more fun' comparative adj.

Dear teachers,

Is 'more fun' the comparative adjective of fun? If I would follow the syntax of comparative, (add 'er' for short words). Can I say funer?

Would you mind explaining it for my future reference?

Thanks!

You cannot say 'funer' (or 'funner') in standard English. The movie is more fun than the book.

Yes, 'funnier' is a good comparative adjective, but it does not have the same meaning:

funny / funnier = humorous
fun / more fun = enjoyable

Saying something is "funnier" means it is comical...fun, on the other hand, means enjoyable - not really the same thing
